I just got my KOF01 from MDGameSales... and was a little miffed. Why, well, looking through the slots I see two little EPROMs on the top board that appeared to be on the risers (ala the bootleg FLASH chips).

I open the cart, and what greats me but a completly amazing site. The P1 and P2 ROM has been replaced with EPROMs, but, they are sitting in sockets that are machine soldierd to the PCB. Everything else is 100% original as well, all appropriate KOF2001 chips and branding on the PCB.

So... what I am wondering, is how rare is this... or do you all have socketed roms for P1 and P2... I had never seen anything like this, which makes me believe this was a first rev cart that was updated. I haven't had a chance to play it, but I am sure it is normally KOF01... Man... I seem to be getting all the oddities these days. I was going to complain... then I figured, well fuck... if something ever goes wrong, it sure as hell well be easy to repair!

Anyway...

Hi !
the roms of C are rom flash and the roms M1 and S1 of the eproms, my ROTD is a version jap. P2 is a eprom and the roms of V is double. It's strange.

Yep, it sounds like your ROTD is indeed a bootleg... anyone have any more info on KOF01? Still wondering if all carts are like this or not,

Hello !
I am not on it is a bootleg, because the ROTD uses ProgBK1 and Cha 256 truth and the roms of V has a job number. Moreover, I bought the cartridge with neoayato, they assure me that it is not a bootleg. In addition, it functions perfectly with Phantom but one never knows.

Here's how looks an original ROTD :

Despite all they can say, Neoayato aren't very careful when stocking MVS cart and are known to sell bootlegs. They tend to say it's not their job to check carts, which is very unprofesionnal IMO.

Merci Hpman !

Thank you Hpman !

There, thanks to you, I am on C a bootleg, has there more has to discuss. But it's strange, I bought that with neoayato and my confirmed however.

Mine is very different, there are even wire everywhere and a rocker D flip-flop additional to convert the chart of 256 into 512. You thinks that there exists how much kind of bootleg for this plays, because I thought that it in existed that one only left (I saw images on www.neogeousa.com).

It's a pity that I do not have of photo appareil numerical.

I just cracked open my KOF2k1 and have the exact same thing. All the chips minus the P1 and SP2 are normal w/ silk screening, the other two are eproms on sockets. The P1 chip is marked with a "1" in black marker, and the SP2 a "2". I also have two spine labels on my cart, one on top of the other. Maybe these were Jap carts that they rechipped and relabeled for Eng? I can't imagine why they would need to change chips for that... Oh, and my cart's serial is 009604, is yours in the same range? (the serial is on the barcode sticker on the side of the case, not the actual spine label)

Hey there buddy... Well, as for the Japanese to US thing... Mine has a Japanese label, so I doubt that was it. However, SNK did that a lot, convert some Japanese stock to English by sticking another label over it, Cosmico does the same thing, but they use horrible stickers wink I need to go check my badcode, the game is in my machine, but I will pull it out tonight when I get home. Thanks for the update! Appears that there is atleast a few of these oddities out there.... I thought it was a cool revision of the cart... mmm... the thought of all socketed roms wink
