1. 2007 239,325,446 5,149,178
2. 2006 21,075,186 428,522

I contest the accuracy of the hit ratio.

1. Q4 2007 19,608,549 538,978
2. Q3 2007 68,501,891 1,495,122
3. Q2 2007 77,513,322 1,536,584
4. Q1 2007 73,701,684 1,578,494
5. Q4 2006 21,075,186 428,522

A jump between q4 and q1 of this yr there is a dif of over 1 000 000 requests that all of a sudden average out? Thats not a gradual progression by any means.

Something is up I tell you. These requests are being automatically generated by bots.

Oh yeah, let's construct some conspiracy theories on hit counts. :loco::lolz:

Seriously though, services like Boardtracker gave us a huge jump in the number of guests (and thus hits) during the last 12 months, that's all there is to it. These services use webcrawlers (aka spiders) to fetch the contents of new topics of various BBSs' and dump then into databases for browsing and searching, similar to Google's crawlers that visit websites and record/update meta tags. BT users then can search the forums via frontend on the BT site or directly enter a certain forum, which seems to happen a lot. Conclusion, most of these hits come from normal users, not bots.

Btw., there are several ways to calculate hit counters, per page or per click, site access, etc. Not sure what this one here tells us but I guess its per click. Maybe Shawn could tell us more about it.

Not that it would matter anyway... who still cares for hit counts these days - it's all about transfer rates, bandwidth and transfer quantity.

The counter shown on the menu only keeps track of hits to the menu itself. If you visit www.neo-geo.com and click every single page (and all forum pages included), that will still only increment the counter by +1 since the menu is never refreshed. It's about as minimalist an approach to gauging traffic as possible. A more accurate assessment is provided from Alexa.com as shown here:

Yeah, counting single hits is the way to go, good to hear it's like that on neo-geo.com.

Still, high hit counts look good on paper but traffic amount and bandwidth are way more accurate statistical figures concerning the site performance.

Anyway, we don't need no stinkin' statistics to know that this place is still rocking the routers, eh! :)

At least the spam-bots are contributing something. :lolz:

Wow, 11m hits though. This place has still got it.
