I own a 4 slot MVS board that has the controll ports which can be used with your home systems joysticks. I have heard that you can use the select button on your joystick to switch between games. I was wondering if I wire a standard arcade button to the correct pins in the controll port if I could use it as a select button? :)

Uhm...AFAIK, "select" on the home stick corresponds to "coin" on the arcade machine...but of course I might as well be wrong, as I don't have a 4-slot MB...

I can't understand why you would want to do this, but I think you can. When I got my jamma harness made there were wires for a select switch. Since I was using the controller ports I didn't need it. I just put the machine on freeplay and use select to select the game I want.

I have no neo joysticks and I dont intend to so I see no problem using the neo ports. I will probably use quick disconnect terminals to hook to the port so it won't be damaged incase I ever did have neo joysticks.
Thanks :D
I wonder if Briggs could back up your confirmation? <img src="graemlins/spock.gif" border="0" alt="[Spock]" />

But there IS a "select" pin on the main harness: why don't you use that?

Pin 3 on the joystick port should be "Select"

Sorry for the delay, I forgot where I put this:

1 GND
2 GND
3 Select
4 Button D
5 Button B
6 Right
7 Down
8 ?? +5v ??
9 ?? +5v ??
10 GND
11 Start
12 Button C
13 Button A
14 Left
15 Up

I'm not sure about the +5v on 8 and 9. Anybody know for sure?

Infos from !! <a href="http://WWW.GAMESX.COM" target="_blank">WWW.GAMESX.COM</a> !! have a look !

1 Common (GND) 10 NC
2 NC 11 Start
3 Select 12 C Button
4 D Button 13 A Button
5 B Button 14 Left
6 Right 15 Up
7 Down
8 +5v
9 D Button

[03/14/02] Pin 8 provides +5v to the controller. This is unused in the original stick, but is mandatory for proper use of the pads and new-style sticks. <img src="graemlins/multi.gif" border="0" alt="[Multi Color Bouncey]" /> <img src="graemlins/multi.gif" border="0" alt="[Multi Color Bouncey]" /> <img src="graemlins/multi.gif" border="0" alt="[Multi Color Bouncey]" /> <img src="graemlins/multi.gif" border="0" alt="[Multi Color Bouncey]" />
Note! There's something odd about the NEO controller. Almost every other controller in the world uses GROUND for the common connection. It seems the NEO home system uses +5v instead. While for the old-model NEO sticks this isn't an issue, there are transistors/diodes in the NEO pads which will cause all sorts of trouble if you wire them normally.

Because of this, we recommend you use +5v instead of ground as your common, or at the very least make it switchable if you ever intend to use the NEO pad.

So if I wire pin 2 and 3 to a switch I should have no problems switching between games?

For some reason that GAMESX site had it all wrong for me... I tried to follow it but my Neo Sticks were very different as I remember.
