Hi There,
I was thinking about buying a jap CPS3 kit with JoJo´s, but I would like to get some tech info before wasting my money! Any info will be welcomed!

In first place, is it possible to change the battery in the cartridge in order to prevent suicide? If so, is it the same procedure as with CPS2 boards? Is there any online manual about this? Furthermore, if the cart commits suicide, is there someway or someone that can bring it back to live?

Is the CD drive a stardard one? I mean, can I plug any CDrom drive instead of the original one and get the same performance?

And one last thing, do all cps3 games use the same motherboard (with the same ram etc.)? Or every time I want a new game I have to purchase the whole kit instead of just the CD and cart?

I hope these are not very usual and repetitive questions... spock
Thanks for the help,

Avoid CPS-3's like the plauge

You cannot change the batteries, and once its dead, you have a new coaster!

The CD drive is standard 32X computer part

All motherboards are the same, but do not attempt changing games. All the info for the game is on the security cart or the cd. It is then loaded into the RAM durring the initial boot up when a new game is installed. You have to wait about 45 min for it all to load.

If the power goes off anytime durring the initial load, you have a new coaster/paper weight!

CPS-3 is good for operators, and operators ONLY.

Save some money, Buy a Naomi, and you will be much happier

Yep... I kicked my power strip during a load, and sure enough it went pop. Too bad the world's best game is on CPS3... sigh.

I asked the same question before, and no one knew where to find one. Just searching on ebay for CPS2 stuff constantly, you can kinda get a general idea of what you should be paying.

CPS3 batteries can be replaced, only problem is that it's extremely hard and I know only of one guy who can do it - <a href="http://www.arcadebase.de/sales.htm" target="_blank">http://www.arcadebase.de/sales.htm</a>

Screw all of you.

Seriously though, does anyone know the naomi pinout? I want to get one but I don't want to spend $200 on some jamma I/O board. All the games will run in both vga and standard res right?

Naomi does have a 15/31KHz jumper.

I don't know the pinout though...I would be interested in this myself.

The video out is vga

controls are usb

audio is stero pre-amped

you need a jamma adaprot to play it in standard rez, and they're like $125 for a sega converter.

What do you mean by "pinout"? An I/O board is required for the controls. The motherboard reads the I/O through USB.

I don't know of any games that don't run in both frequencies, but I don't know enough to give you a definitive answer on that one.

The USB connector connects peripherals to the naomi. The IO boards use the usb connector.

Whew! When I saw there were 20 replies to my topic I was so happy thinking I would find all the answers to my questions! And when I went to check them...it turned out this has become a Naomi post tickled LOL

Yeah, so I would love to have a Naomi Board, since it has great games and they are very low priced, but the motherboard is SO expensive and SO big...I just cannot afford it oh_no ...well, at least for the moment

Anyway, talking about CPS3 again, I found this page where battery replacement for CPS3 is explained:
<a href="http://cbsata.emu-france.com/pile_cps3.htm" target="_blank">http://cbsata.emu-france.com/pile_cps3.htm</a>
But since my french is quite poor i don't get many things clear (I think it says something about changing the battery with the board plugged and working???) Any french guy here that can help? Or someone that knows womething about it?

About arcadebase.de (someone posted the link for CPS3 battery replacement), anyone has done business with these guys and has any good/bad references?

Thanks!

using babelfish..

yes, you have to replace the battery WHILE it's powered on. also, if the cart has a black wire as pictured, if that wire loses power even while the machine is powered, the cart is dead. you need to use the "2 battery" strategy or solder in a new batter, then cut the old one out. means you can't close the casing anymore either.
