Can you transplant light cells to another four cell board? I have a 4 cell with two that are burned out and have been offered another with the same. Can I take the two working ones from the other board and replace the bad ones on mine? How difficult would this be?

Sure you can...

You have to de-solder the two small connections..
They are real small and fragile..I used a butter knife to lift them away from the board.

The lights have some glue on the backs of them on each side the PCB board...
That has to be pulled up gently.

Here's what a light looks like off the board.

EDIT..Removed pic,,Email me if you need it..

Does any company make these type of cells or was it SNK exclusive use?

I'm pretty sure it was an SNK exclusive.

shouldn't it be possible to use standard EL sheets for this? although I'm not sure the voltage and frequency will suffice, a new inverter might be needed.

That question is over my head..

I need a real tech in here.. help

I'd like to see what a standard EL sheet looks like..
Do you have any links or pics to what these look like?

I would love to find an alternative/replacement for blown bulbs...that would help a lot of people..
It took me quite some time to finally get 4 working bulbs..

they're pink paper in a plastic wrap with wires.. when you apply a high voltage at a certain frequency, they glow white.

That's pretty much what a MV-ELD marquee light bulb is..A pink paper wrapped on plastic with two connections for power..

I think it's a possibility they may work..
Are they easy to get?

You may have something here...

they can be gotten off ebay and at casemodding shops etc.. sheets that large aren't cheap, but might be worth the try considering how hard the originals are to get.

I put a scope across the light panel supply, its something like 100 volts pk-pk at 3.6 khz.

They are switched via the MV-ELA pcb.
