Video Ram Error

My NEO GEO 6 Slot was working fine until the other day... The sprites started looking all messed up so I cleaned the slots n carts but it didn't make any diffference.

Now I get the error - Video Ram Error
00008000 5555 55d5

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I've got the RAM in stock if you can't find any over there. The website shows I'm out but I haven't had time to update it yet.

Hey there thanks for the replies!

I must say I'm really bummed out that my Neo-Geo is busted and me being a noob to repairing stuff doesn't help either.

Could you send me a link for the RAM chip I need - I had look on your Arcade Components website but wasn't too sure of the one I'm looking for...

And erm, which chip exactly on the board is it I need to replace? (is it on the bottom board?).

With me being in the UK and you being in the USA - I guess it wouldn't be too cost effective for me to ship my 6-Slot over to you for repair (or would it?). On the off chance, do you have any contacts of anyone over here in the UK that could do it?

I'm a bit clumsy with a soldering iron!

Thanks again for your help.:)

I think MKL over in Italy can help you if you are uncomfortable in replacing it.

I'll get you the link tonight. I have to put up a new part # as I'm out of the Cypress ICs and have IDT ones now.

The link that bamarquez226 gave you will help you identify which specific chip is bad. Don't forget to socket the chip to make it easier to replace in the future if you have any more problems.

Hey man, thanks again for your help.

If you could send me the link that would be great. I think I have found a local engineer who can do the soldering for me.

I need a bit more help locating the bad chip though... I've read the other thread mentioned but I'm still confused.

Another quick question - what do you mean by socketed?

Cheers!

Ok cool, I see what you mean.

So - I took my 6 Slot apart today and tried to locate the chip that is bad.
I'm still puzzled as to its location.

The RAM chips are surface mount chips, that is, they do not have pins going through board when they are soldered.

They are 24-pin chips and are mounted in pairs. There are several pairs, video ram, memory backup, etc.

Try looking around one of the larger square looking chips labeled, SNK CORP LSPC-A?

Hope this helps.

/me kicks you.

The error at $8000 is an error with the CXK-5814 chips - the ones that are NOT surface mount soldered.

Hey thanks for your help there, i think I know which ones you mean now. I'm glad it's not the 24pin surface mount bad boys!

ROCK ON :loco:
