Hi,

I was planning to buy a Puzzle Bobble MVS cart, but I've seen arround two different carts! One is white and the other one black. Since I know there are many bootlegs out there, anyone knows which is the color of an authentic Puzzle Bobble MVS cart?
Moreover, is there any place that has pics of every or many MVS carts? (There are just a few in the cart pics area) Or a list of colours? Just not to get a bootleg when buying one...though it can have the same colour as the original and be a bootleg..

Thanks!

color of the cart doesnt determine if its a boot or not, although it is a good sign. I have a blazing star thats in a white cart, but it's not a boot. I believe puzzle booble is in a black case. BEWARE though, puzzle bobble has a reputation of being one of the most bootlegged games around, so buy it only from a reputable place that knows the difference between a legit and bootlegged cart. Many people would suggest mdgamesales, and I have seen a lot of people that are happy with the ebay user gamesbyruss, who also knows the difference between a legit and bootlegged cart. Ask around on the forums for reputable sellers and just buy from them.

the color has NOTHING to do with if it is a boot or not for 99% of MVS games. Some games were only producedin one color only. (bang bead). and you can tell right off the bat that those are boots.

there is no definate answer for all the other carts unless you open them up and inspect the boards.

The White cases were used by SNK as rentals, and does not mean its a boot.

Some newer boots (Metal Slug 4) are encased in a non original case. The bootleggers have developed their own case, that is very similar to an original, so close you can only tell if your holding it in your hands. The case is made out of cheap plastic, and has a sandpaper texture, unlike SNK's, which are smooth.

You are quite wrong about Metal Slug 4. I bought my MVS KIT directly from SNK, and it has that "SAND-PAPER" casing.

Yup!
Those pics on booty carts sure will help to find out if I get any bootleg...too bad I cannot check what's inside before buying it eek_2

So although the cart colour doesn't give any essential prove on whether the game is a bootleg or an original, it may be determinative in some cases, right? (For example a red MOTW) That's why I asked for the usual colours of Puzzle Bobble.
But knowing that white carts are common in original games, any of those black or white Puzzle Bobbles I saw may be real...or bootleg! eek_2

Anyway, if sometime I get a bootleg, apart from not getting an original SNK product, which are the differences when playing a bootleg or an original? Glitches? Errors? Nothing?

thanks,

Depends. My bootleg PB is perfect, however some boots have bad graphics, bad/no sound, game glitches. It depends on how much work was put into the bootleg(perfect copy, or sloppy knock-off).

Red is often used for Korean carts.

Using cart colour as a boot guide is very risky, but in some cases it can be helpful. It is never definitive though. Sometimes a case will break and an operator may swap the boards.

Boots are often badly made so they will give up more easily than the real deal, they are also more prone to glitches for the same reason. Some, famously only have some of the content of the original or in some other way don't offer the same experience as the original.

Finally, if you become known as someone who even occasionally deals in boots you will find a lot of people will no longer deal with you.

Mine's black but it's a bootleg anyway...

If you want to see if it's a bootleg or not without opening it, look through the holes in the plastic on the sides of the carts. You'll see at least one ROM chip (others being hidden by the plastic), you should see numbers written on it, if it's a real Puzzle Bobble cart, it has to be something like this: 083-C5, 083-C6, 083-M1, ... You get the point, "083-something". 083 is the number for Puzzle Bobble. If you see any other number, then it's a fake one or a converted cart.

I bought mine on eBay so I didn't saw the inside prior buying it. When I received it, I looked through the holes and saw "068-something". I fell on one of those infamous Power Spikes II converted carts. Bub sprite is altered (well, he's looking good but he's not smiling the way he should, he looks angry instead, Bob is OK though. A must seen!). Some people on this board claim it's legit but it's surely NOT! The seller who sold me this one didn't know the way to see if it's real or not.

Usually, bootleggers don't use translucent cases because you can straightly see if it's a real cart or not, but verify anyway... Good luck! :)

I actually had no idea that there were red MVS carts! I just was trying to get an extreme example eek! Should have said purple then! glee
And hey! I'm really not interested in dealing with bootlegs! That's why I'm asking for info, so I can aviod them! Thanks for the advise anyway!

Well, I was going to porpose making a mvs cart colour list, to list all the known available colours for each original MVS cart, so that people can distinguish at least bootlegs with strange colour cases. But since I've seen that colour has that very little to do when verifying the autenticity of a cartridge, it may be quite pointless.

Thanks for the info on the Puzzle bobble cart! I'll try not to get booted when I buy one!
