Sengoku 3 Vs. Final Fight

I know I'm comparing games that were made over 10 years apart, but I still haven't found a side scrolling beat'em up that I've enjoyed as much as Final Fight. I could play that game all day long. I've never played Sengoku 3, but the screens looked pretty smooth. I still haven't heard enough reviews to spend the $219 this (great) site is asking.
Can anybody who has played them both compare the two?

Hey John I can answer this question because I just bought it for the $219 from Neo Store and I'll say this... the game is awesome if you're into these kinds of beat em ups. Does it best Final Fight??? In my opinion... No! But then we're comparing a weapons based fighter to bare knuckles action as well. Sengoku 3 however, I feel is well worth the $219 asking price. It has great graphics, and is an enjoyable part of brawler-adventure games... but if you remember playing Sengoku 1 or 2, this thing is nothing like them, and I actually like part II the best. The combo system is cool, but seriously dude, if you get bored easily (and I still can't find the patience to beat F.Fight on my MAME emulator) you might want to get this one used. If you're like me and would rather play side-scrolling brawlers instead of next-gen games, (yes I'm afflicted, but I like knowing that I'm playing "a game" and not some VR Construct) then go ahead and purchase the game brand new. It's not Final Fight but then few things are. I hope this helps you out. Best of luck and Good day ^_^

Have you played Streets of Rage 2? Best side scoller beat 'em up ever, IMHO of course. Sengoku would be very good if there were more variations of guys to fight. Still, SOR2. If you haven't played it, it's on the Genesis. Check it out.

Dude..Konami makes some of the best side scrolling fighters of all time. Vendetta and Violent Storm are two of the best of all time. Capcom and IGS made some of the best side scrolling fighters of all time too, i.e.: Dungeons and Dragons and Knights of Valour. Sengoku 3 is a good game mainly for the characters only. The bosses and backgrounds are kind of boring. The combo system is the only real selling point. The games I have listed above are all better than Sengoku and Final Fight. However if you want to say which is the best Neo Geo side scrolling fighter then I guess thats up to your preference in bare nucks or weapons fighters. :)

What about Final Fight 2 and 3 on SNES? Streets of Rage 2 is a good game though.

Sengoku 3 is an o.k. game with nice graphics (backgrounds are lame though) and a nice combo system, BUT can't really be compared to the immortal Capcom's masterpiece...
Final Fight is in another league

I think most of you guys don't even play side-scroll beat-n-up that much....

Sengoku 3 is an above average game.
Anyone who pays $50 or more for this game is a dumbass.

There are so many titles are better & cheaper than Sengoku 3.

Streets of Rage 1-3 (all three will not cost you more than $60)
Final Fights 1-3 (same as above)
SNES TMNT ($17, brand new)
Warriors of Fate II ($59 for PS/Sat)
SNES Knights of the Round ($20, complete)
.....and many more

You can get almost all the games I've mentioned above for around $219.....

Only stupidass pays $219 for Sengoku 3

But if its "an above average game" then isnt it worth paying a little extra for it? Besides, you can get it for 110 to 120 now from MD or Trieu. Its a good game but your right though, the ones you listed would be a better buy if you want to save money.

Hey Liquid I personally own all those other games you listed, and while I would rather have not spent $210 bucks on a game, I wanted the thing RIGHT NOW not next week or awhile later. As for who's an idiot or whatever... I personally didn't join the Neo Community to start shit fits with other ppl about their preferences in what they consider to be a good game. We all like things for different reasons. I agree with you that Sengoku 3 isn't the kitten's meow, but it's far from being bad either.

On a personal note... Explain to me "Just how Mercs is better than Shock Troopers?" I'd really like to know the breakdown on this one! I'm all for personal faves and shit, but seriously how in the hell can you make that statement? I mean heck, I still have a hard time deciding whether or not I like Super Contra (arcade) better than Metal Slug... but the fact is they're both good!

As for this posting over Sengoku Vs. Final Fight... All I was telling the guy is if you've got money to burn and you like brawlers this isn't too bad a game, but I didn't steer the guy wrong either by telling him it was Final Fight!

I actually would prefer Final Fight 3 on SNES over Sengoku 3.

Final Fight 3 was an excellent Beat em Up IMO!

Amen! I like Sengoku 3 better than all those games though :) . I think it's awesome, and I don't feel like a dumbass at all for paying all that money. It's a great game.

Oh, and as for Mercs vs Shock Troopers, Liquid Snake and BBH had a huge fight over that one. It was pretty interesting. Too bad the search feature isn't working or you could dig it up :( .

Don't pay much attention to Liquid Snake, he's never here to talk about Neo-Geo games.

Back on topic, Sengoku 3 has some cool combos but it really does get repetitive fast.

I like and hate Sengoku 3. It is a great arcade game, and as such is best in small doses. Mindless fun for about 20mins, but you will bore of it. Maybe it is worse on MVS because you have unlimited continues, maybe that is why I don't really care for it that much. It is very repetitive, and although the combo system is fun at first, even it gets old. It looks great though, and even though most backgrounds are pretty static and don't scroll very far, it looks good. It is too long, has to few different enemies, pretty repetitive, and a bit to boring to finish, but it is not a terrible game. It is only $90 on MVS these days, that may be a better option for you if you can play MVS.

Anyway, Sengoku 2 will always be tops beat-em-up on the Neo for me. Just my opnion, and I am sure it is not shared by all, but Sengoku 2 is just so much more fun for me to play.

Sengoku 3 was cool...for about 5 minutes. Same with the previous two, they can't even begin to touch Final Fight in terms of greatness.

However, Aliens VS Predator blows Final Fight out of the water and reigns as the greatest beat 'em up out there.

It's too bad that this genre is all but dead nowadays. Why is that? This genre represents the golden years of arcade gaming and developers just toss it aside like a used condom? When they DO get released they are usually held in high regard by critics and players alike (IE: Guardian Heroes) so why don't we see more of them? Could you imagine sequels/revisions of some of the classics such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Sunset Riders, The Simpsons, Final Fight, Aliens VS Predator and Double Dragon with high-res graphics that resemble Guilty Gear and gameplay that mimicks the best King of Fighters has to offer?

The only thing that really sucks on Sengoku 3 is the lack of diferent enemies. Other than that, Final Fight is more attractive because you have lots of guys to smash their faces. I still don't know wich one I prefer, either Streets of Rage 2 or Final Fight. Final Fight have huge sprites compared to SOR2, but SOR2 have better music and a lot of moves wich are lacking in Final Fight.
Final Fight best quality is that any character you choose will satisfy you, SOR2 not. <img src="graemlins/glee.gif" border="0" alt="[Glee]" />

How much different is Final Fight on neo geo than Final Fight on SNES as far as number of animation cells missing and missing features? Are there any?

Final Fight on Neo Geo totally rocks, but alas, it's so rare that you will have to fork out like eleventy six thousand dollars for one.

Final Fight on the SNES is OK if that is your only option. The graphics take a slight hit and there is no guy (big disappointment) and I think it's only one player. This is all from memory, so I may be mistaken.

Final Fight CD (Sega CD) was probably the best port. It kicks major ass.

Yes! Only 3 opponents on the screen at a time. In arcade the count is at least double, but the SNES can not take so much chars at once.
