I finally bought a PC Engine Duo from a Japanese used elctronics shop and when I got it home, it would not power on. I've never owned one of these before, so I don't know if I'm missing anything. I put a disc in and it did not turn on. I also tried a Hu Card. Does anyone know if I'm missing anything? Who fixes these? I know D-Lite mods them, but does he fix them too? Any help is appreciated.

Crack it open and see if anything is burned.. and check for leaky caps. Caps are easy to replace. Also.. check to see if your power supply is good... if you're lucky it could be that easy.

This is the original black Duo right?

Is the power supply original? The one I have with mine has printed on it "PAD-124" and the DC connector is very wide.

Is the DC socket corroded at all inside? (corrosion may stop power from reaching the system).

Have you tried gently wiggling the DC plug whilst it is in the socket? Perhaps the socket has a bad solder joint.

There is an internal fuse on this system, check it with a multimeter to make sure its not broken. If it went violently you may be able to see the thin thread of wire inside it physically broken. It can look good and be broken so using a multimeter is best.

Doubt its a cap issue if it won't turn on at all. More likely to be one of the above.

I do fix Duos. If you don't have any joy with it, I would be interested in taking it off your hands. Then as others have stated, you can probably get another one.. no idea what you paid for it of course. Was it sold as working?

Like I said before, I have never owned one of these. I feel retarded, but the system works. I didn't know that you have to push the start button on the controller. At least it works. Thanks for the help. In case you are curious, I paid $60 for the whole thing. It's in great shape, but no box.
