I have recently bought a 1 slot Neo Geo cabinet that was converted from a dedicated four slot. I would like to turn it back into a four slot. Could you convert a four slot into a one slot without removing the original board? How do I tell if the PCB is a Jamma of MVS board? What parts do I need to buy to make this conversion?

Yes, but I am not sure if he replaced the mvs motherboard with a jamma board in order to run the 1 slot.

This is really confusing. What kind of motherboard is actually inside the cab, 4-slot or 1-slot?

Check out <a href="http://www.hardmvs.com" target="_blank">www.hardmvs.com</a> for more info.

I think he means there's a 1 slot that may be new-style with the JAMMA plus D button pinout, as opposed to the MVS pinout of a four slot, with the stereo sound and select switch and whatnot.

I guess question I am trying to ask is if a 1 slot deck or whatever you call it will work on a MVS motherboard. I have looked on hardmvs.com and it doesnt say if you can play a 1 slot deck on a four slot mvs motherboard. But I did find out that the only diffence between the two motherboards is the game select button is added to the MVS motherboard. So I pressed the game select button during demo mode and it starts the demo over. So the select game button has got to be wired so it has to be a MVS motherboard. So I guess if you wanted to hook up a 1 slot deck to a MVS motherboard it would work(I dont know why you would) Does this make sense to anyone else?

I'm not sure if you understand the basics of an arcade cab setup.

Hope I can help out a little. When someone says one-slot or four-slot, they're referring to the motherboard or MVS board. If you're playing a home game, this would be like the Nintendo console or whatever. Into that goes the cartridge which is the software. The amount of slots refers to how many cartridges the board can accept at one time.

For all this to work, the board with cartridge plugged in just needs a power supply, monitor and controls hooked up. That's all there is to it.

A Neo Geo cab will have only one motherboard or deck. It's either 1-slot 2-slot or 4-slot. They can be swapped, but not combined or anything else.

It sounds like your cab may still have a 4-slot board with just one cartridge in it. Open the sucker up and just see if the board has 3 empty cartridge slots. If so, you probably don't have to do anything but get some new MVS carts and load it up.
