It will come up in the system setup/test mode. You can test things like joysticks and buttons. There's a pattern to allow you to tune your monitor. It's just things like that. Think of it like going into the BIOS on your PC.

You might want to check out <a href="http://www.hardmvs.com/" target="_blank">http://www.hardmvs.com/</a> and do some looking around. They should have MVS board manuals there, too, and they should have a better explanation of what you want to know.

If you boot with no cart you should get a cross-hatch pattern, i.e. white vertical/horizontal grid, this is used for setting up picture geometry and convergence.
