System 16 to JAMMA problems

I am having troubles getting my System 16 boards to respond to the controllers/coin slots on my homebuilt jamma case. I thought that it might be a ground wire or something but never figured it out. If i remember correctly the sound didnt work either.

Are system 16 boards JAMMA?
Because I have a Shadow Dancer board, and that ain't JAMMA. Then again, I think Shadow Dancer might be System 18. Correct me if I am wrong.

A system 16 board is NOT Jamma Spec. You need a converter. Ebay has some up right now, the factory sega one is best.

no i am using an adapter that i got from ebay about a year ago. Just tried about every thing with it (rewiring my controls and my case (power supply and jamma harness).

System 16, 18 & I believe 24 all use the same proprietary SEGA pinout. I just made one up myself and amazingly enough it worked perfectly and completely first go, lucky me eh! If you require a JAMMA Vs SEGA pinout comparison I can scan the one from my Golden Axe manual as long as someone can host it for me!!

Also NeoSteveP21, as far as you're sound not working goes, I hope its just that you haven't got it hooked up right as quite a lot of System 16 boards have the dreaded epoxy encased Z80 and or 68k CPU's with suicide battery and some unique code that will only work on the game its designed to run on. If you have on with the z80 version and the battery is dead, so is your sound and it can be tricky to get it going again depending on the title in question. oh_no
