if all goes well (read- Godwilling)- i should be getting my copy of MOTW tomorrow on the DC.
i'm just curious as to what the tiers are for this game (if any real tiers exist, even).
i've heard that kevin rian and the kaphwan sons dominate and that rock is actually low-tier, but i'd like a second, third, fourth- whatever- opinion on the subject.

I have not played the dreamcast version so I do not know if the engine for the fighters has been altered or is different than on the neo cart but by going by the neo cart version Rock and terry Bogard are the two easiest and strongest fighters to use and have the best moves, they both have a burning knuckle move which can beat all other reg specials,as for kims sons, most moves are based on kicks like their fathers so if they miss their target there is ample opportunity to strike them before they recover there stance.while a punch move soons allows you to block.hope you enjoy the game,it does not take as long as most beat em ups to complete though.

There are no tiers. Some characters are just easier for scrubs to learn than others.

Isn't that what Tiers are? Some characters are better for domination than others (usually those easier to learn).

truth is, any character can dominate. Doesn't matter if you're Kevin Ryan or the Kwan bros.

I dont think of MOTW as having a real tier system. In fact a really dont see that in any of SNK's latest. Capcom still does it, I've noticed. But in Garou, everyone's moves are equally attainable, so I reall dont see why a character like Rock would be on a lower tier than Kim's sons. Sure he's the poster boy, but things arent always that obvious.
Cept for Griffon, everyone's really balanced in my opinion.
And terry is easy to use cos he's been around since one of SNK's first fighters. His moves are still pretty much intact so what does everyone expect him to do? become harder? He's slower in this game so it IS a challange to get one over some of the faster characters.

Do you mean that he's really good or really bad? If it's the former, I'd have to disagree. If it's the latter, I REALLY disagree. I mean, the guy's got the best throws; they're perfect after a Just Defend. Plus his TOP attack is nasty.

And Rock...I play him, and honestly think he is one of the weaker characters. Here are some reasons:

His 360 command grab is NOT instant.

His projectile isn't exactly one of the best.

No really great anti-air (Sure, Rising Tackle maybe, but you have to charge it and Rock's not suited to charging down/back a lot).

And Raging Storm is completely useless. It's total Just Defend or combo bait.

I still play him a lot...I just see him as being weaker than most.

The main key for rock in order to be successful with him is being deceptive with his moves. his basic attacks have crazy priority and is special attacks are for the most part easy to combo into supers. You have to create setups with him, get your opponent to do what you want. ex. rocks b button rage run. if you do a couple of low attack your opponent will likely still be blocking low in which you can do his rage run and it will hit them down. if they block that, 9 times out of 10 they will retaliate with an attack. but as they do, if you time it right, you can do his kick super for that has crazy priority and will connect.

Kain & Grant (bosses) are the top. Grant is like Zankuro, except even more stupid-looking.

Otherwise, the game is actually fairly well balanced. Towards the top and middle, you have Terry, Marco, Griffon, Gato. Around the mid-middle, you have Kevin, Freeman, and possibly Jae Hoon, though he has a few cheap and easy tricks that are a bit too good, so he might be higher up. Around the middle to bottom, you have Rock, Dong Hwan, B. Jenet, Hokutomaru, and Hotaru (the last 3 can't do all that much damage).

Overall, Mark of the Wolves has some very good character balance. As far as the character designs go, you'll probably find a couple of characters you'll like a lot, some you're ok with, and you'll hate the rest. (My favorites are Dong Hwan, Terry, Rock, and Kevin; I'm OK with Jae Hoon, B. Jenet, and Tizoc, and I can't stand Hokutomaru, Hotaro, Gato, and Freeman). Fortunately, the game is so balanced that you can pretty much just play the characters you like most. Also, most of the game's characters are actually pretty straightforward to play, so they're all easy to get into, except Dong Hwan (who is the game's token skill character). Kim's sons don't dominate the game by any means, although they're both pretty spectacular to watch, what with all the fire and lightning.
