Why are AES controller cables so darn short?

They're like, 3 feet long. What the hell? Are there any extensions (legit or homebrew) so that I don't have to go blind from sitting so close to the TV?

You mean for PC gamepads that use a game port (not USB)? I think the AES stick has a serial-like connection. I'd have to count the pins though. Has anyone used a PC extender on an AES system? Do they work well, if at all?

I have Neo Geo extention cords and I think they are the same as the PC joystick extension cords. Just try them out. They look identical! Only difference is these "SNK extension cords" cost 20Euro and the PC 5Euro! I think I got ripped off a little

The cables are so short because the houses or rooms in Japan are very small! And a lot of Asian people are short sighted ;)

I'll have to ask around at EB and other places to see if they're the same. I need extensions!

Check !Arcade!, I got mine there for $30 apiece. A quality product, but pretty pricy... I previously got a set of homebrew for $20 apiece off E-bay, but they only worked for about a week. So unless you get a better recommendation, I'd go !Arcade!.

Questions:

- Are those extensions original or do they make them themselves?
- Is this company trustworthy? I've never dealt with them, and I see they sell phantom converters. I want one of those later on so it would be nice if they were trustworthy.

Check this other thread from Melf for more info.

The Neo uses 15 pin connector as the classic PC joypads (not USB), only that the pad has female end instead of male and the console end is very deep. It's not the same as serial (Genesis uses the same as serial, but not the Neo).

It's so I don't get too far from my neo... Leave her except for work and sleep? I could die!

I have 2 pc extension cords modded for the neo, first you need to find an extension cord that is plastic or rubber, and the pin count is 15. When you find these, yes on ebay i got mine ofr 5 bucks, the end that goes into the neo itself needs to be cut back so that the plug is long and will stay in the controller port. its pretty easy once you have them. basically get the cords and cut about 1/2inch of the rubber surrounding the connection and it will ft nicely in the aes/cd systems.

I think they make them themselves... the cables look like they could have been put together in a factory, I've been using mine for a couple of months now. And the company has been in the scene for years, very trustworthy. They have their own forums with some members from here moderating.

XSkater has a nice idea also, probably the most cost-effective solution. But if you don't want to cut the original cable for the stick, then it's extension cord time.

Sounds like teh same with the turbo-grafx. the cords on it are like, 3 feet long. My friends Neo has 3 foot cables as well. My guess was they made them that short so they could sell you extenders.

Ah my friend, but at least NEC actually made extension cables. SNK didn't :(

I've emailed Spoonman about buying some from him. If not, using the $5 PC cables is the other way to go.

I think it is the different in culture, I notice a lot of my foreign friend sit further away form the TV while watching or playing game but my Asians friend sit right in front of the TV even when it is 34" big! SNK being a Japan/Asian conmpanies would have made product that are the norm for their society.
