I hadn't played it in a while so I got the cart out today and, I'm ashamed to say, I'm getting my @ss kicked!

I know the game is hard but I don't remember it being this difficult; or maybe I'm not as good at playing Sengoku as I thought.

Anyway, does anyone have tips on the best way to defeat enemies when your without a sword and/or can't transform. This is when I get destroyed over and over.

No techniques are mentioned in the manual (not surprisingly) but I've gotten the guy to 'parry' and break enemy swords a couple of times. I have no idea how to repeat it but it certainly evens the odds.

I'm guessing there's a strategy to the hand to hand fighting like matching the timing of the enemies attacks to try and parry. But nothing I've tried works consistently.

I gotta agree with you here... I had to set this game on easy to get anywhere the first couple times I played it!

Don't know how many people know this, but if you are without sword/power item, hold down the A button. This releases a spirit attack. Of course holding down the button is dangerous in this game, so time it's use wisely <IMG SRC="smilies/spock.gif" border="0">

I used to play the hell out of Sengoku since it is one of my favorite games. The best strategy I have found, is that if you know some of the samurai guys are coming, don't pick up any swords and break theirs. To break them, just start punching, and keep hitting the punch button right as he starts to swing and 9 times out of 10 you will catch the sword and break it.

Thanks for the tip! I just tried it, and it's been mor like 6 out of 10 times, but that's better than what it was.
