just curious on what all of you think, personally i find that there is a difference in fighting games that are near perfection (lastblade 2,KOF, Garou:MOTW) and ones that are just damn fun to play despite cheap moves and maybe underpar graphics. sure i love lastblade 2 and play it constantly and find it to be the most balanced game ive ever played, but goofing off with my friends and beating the shit out of eachother nothing is nearly as fun as Guilty Gear. Sure it has some cheap moves like Millia's combo where you just press triangle alot and it has the Destroy fatalities but it is far more fun to play then lastblade 2 and kickes KOF and Garou:MOTW out of the water for just being plain fun to play. any of the rest of you know games like this or at least want to comfort me by letting me know im not alone.

GuiltyGearX-my reason to finially get DC

To me, World Heroes Perfect is the funnest fighting game and gives the bang for the buck. It's not overly serious nor is it overly wacky. The perfect mix it is IMHO. Just too bad the death matches weren't implemented in WHP. Still, gotta love that Ice Age stage!

As for non fighting games, the most fun game gotsa be Saturn Bomberman!

i don't know what draws me to it, the animation, the colorful characters, the unique 'flinging' gameplay... (kicking the CPU opponent against the far wall, watching them jump straight back and then doing it again)... or just the fact that gives a very jPop feel and the final boss is an evil pacman with a spanish name.

Hara Hara = get the f*ck away!

I like CVS and MOTW a lot and always seem to have fun with them. Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo never gets old to me for some reason. Jet Grind Radio is a blast, as is Incredible Crisis. Resident Evil games are still a lot of fun, same with Dino Crisis and Onimusha (love Survival Horror). Anything with a gun (Time Crisis, Import RE: Survivor) 'trips my trigger'. Talking oldschool, I love the Castlevania (Turboduo Dracula X is the best) and Ninja Gaiden series and go back to them once in a while. I still play Parrapa and Umjammer quite a bit, and I've been getting into the BeMani stuff, especially DDR, Samba and (if you can believe it) Paraparaparadise.

Didn't know that there would be someone with such similar tastes in games as me, Taiso. I love MotW, and Survival Horror is one of the best genres I enjoy over and over again. Resident Evil series will always hold a place in my most memorable moments. And isn't Parappa the Rapper the shit!! Very unique game with excellent, catchy tunes. Never fails to cheer me up. I never tried Um Jammer Lammy, didn't think it would be better than Parappa, plus I don't like alternative/rock bands that much. And Samba de Amigo I skipped because the Maracas were so expensive. EB was offering $75 new but I didn't feel like it at the time, doh.

Bakuretsu:

I would have never owned a PSX if it weren't for Resident Evil. Before I buy a system, a game has to sell me on it. Resident Evil blew me away the first time I played it. The sheer atmosphere alone made it a must own title for me. Of course, buying a PSX opened many doors for me but I'll never forget how I felt after playing RE for the first time. In fact, if I recall correctly I've only bought systems after playing games I felt I had to own, with a few exceptions(these are not in any order of preference):

NES: Ninja Gaiden
SNES: Final Fantasy 2
PSX: Resident Evil
Neo Geo: KOF '94
Saturn: Fire Pro Wrestling 6 Man Scramble
Dreamcast: Soul Calibur (launch day purchase, but I'd played the import)
PS2: Onimusha and MGS2 on sheer anticipation alone
Genesis: Castlevania: Bloodlines
N64: Star Wars: Shadows Of the Empire (I loved it and still argue it's the best SW game on the system)

I also intend to get a Gamecube for RE:0 and Zelda .

As for Parappa, it's just awesome. I even bought the soundtrack, I like the game so much! I actually prefer the music in Umjammer, but I probably like Parappa more as a game.

You shouldn't have skipped out on the maraccas. I hope you find them someday down the road .

Hell yeah! I would add the Metal Slug series and Shocktroopers for similar reasons.

I'd say the most enjoyable single player game is Kirby's Avalanche on the SNES. Admittedly, any of the Puyo Puyo games offer the same excellent gameplay but I'm going with Kirby simply for the amusement value of the guys (or things) you play against - 'Squishy' in particular. The game is just pure enjoyment - always challenging but never frustrating.

Mutliplayer - I'd have to say that despite their childish motif the Mario Party games are damn enjoyable. They're just great games that anyone can enjoy - gamers and non-gamers.

Windjammers is a alot of fun with friends, also time splitters and mario tennis. I think KOF is just as fun as any other fighter, it's just not as easy to jump into. Im glad someone else actually mentioned Ninja Gaiden too. Thats my all time favorite game.

Unless I am mistaken...

Symphony of the Night is essentially the sequel to Dracula X. Dracula X is widely regarded as the best Castlevania game ever made and it only was released for the PC Engine. They released a SNES game somewhat based on Dracula X but it wasn't the same as the real version (and ended up sucking). I don't think Dracula X ever made it out of Japan. Shame, too. I wanna play as Maria! I've heard instead of whips and axes etc. she assaults her enemies with kittens and birdies and such. Cool...

Doesn't Dracula X have the subtitle Rondo of Blood or something? Maybe I'm thinking about something else....

neogeoML:

Apathy Wind's summary is pretty dead on.

Dracula X: Rondo Of Blood for the turboduo is the first game Richter Belmont appeared in, and the play style was somewhat similar to Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night minus the RPG character building elements. If you play Dracula X it's easy to track how the series evolved into what you see in SOTN.

Being on the turboduo, there are many anime style cinema sequences throughout the game and kick ass music as well. A hard game to find on an obscure system, but believe me if ANY videogame is worth hunting for, this one is it.

And yes, Apathy Wind, the SNES version is tripe by comparison. Not a bad game on its own, but when compared to the source material it falls woefully short of the mark. Being a Castlevania aficionado I have both versions, but I don't think I could stand to play the SNES version in a normal frame of mind.
