Super Sidekicks 2 was a bit of an attention grabber for me. Kind of forgot what it's like, enough so that I can't give an accurate recommendation, since I have not played it in a long time, but definitely less expensive than NGC '98 or Ultimate 11, and at least half decent.

I happen to have SuperSidekicks 2 and quite enjoy it. While I have not played 3, I have come to understand that 2 offers a better experience. I think 3 had slightly better graphics, but 2 was a better game. I am not speaking from a first hand account however, just a grapevine perception. I can tell you that I like 2 quite a bit.

well
here's what i think

the sidekicks saga sucks big time

the best one is STILL the first one,
the other 3 are not even average

i mean come on sidekicks 4 is worth 400 dollars if not more and when you think it was their FOURTH try to come up with something decent then....

neo geo cup 98 is not that different from...
say...sidekicks 4 or 3...
at least to the eyes

but seems a BIT better and a bit more fun

and i know no one will agree on this but
the best

FOOTBALL,not the best soccer game,
the best FOOTBALL game for me is still Soccer Brawl....

Ultimate 11 (Super Side Kicks 4) would be my favorite. It is probably the only MVS game I am planning to get for a long while now.

Neo Geo Cup 98 comes in as a close 2nd.

Supersidekicks 2 - by a long shot!

This is especially the case on the Neo Geo CD. The load times break up Sidekicks 3 almost to the point of it being unplayable. (i.e. long waits after every goal)

I've played or owned all the Neo soccer games. The 2 best IMO are:

Super Sidekicks 2
Super Sidekicks 4 (Ultimate 11)

Neo Geo Cup 98 is okay, but basically it's just Super Sidekicks 3 with a couple extra bells and whistles.

Well I just got Super Sidekicks 2 in the mail today from 16-bit and I love it! I might try to pick up the MVS of Ultimate 11 as well.

Thanks all for your help!

While I can't offer anything as deep as the Shocktroopers 2 review, I will say that Super Sidekicks 2 is a much faster paced game than either Neo Cup '98 or Sidekicks 3. It is a lot easier to keep the ball in Kicks 2 and as such have numerous shots on goal attempts. The computer AI for the goalie is slightly higher and will block the majority of these, however. Kicks 3 delivers a slightly slower pace due mostly to the constant ball control changes. Immense skill is required in learning the trick passes that will keep the computer opponent off balance. The addition of the super long chance shots is a plus, and the few other trick shots not present in Kicks 2 make the sequel a worthy tryout. Neo Cup '98 is Kicks 3 in disguise with only a few miniscule changes, the most negative being the ease of scoring goals (for and against). Much like the classic tricks for the Sega Genesis EA Sports NHL games, shots from certain angles will result in a nearly 75-90% goal scoring efficiency, straying from the soccer game norm.

Unfortunately, as I have not played Ultimate 11 on home cart, I am unable to offer the perspective on it, but I have owned Kicks 2 and currently own Kicks 3. Although two soccer games may be too much at once, the choice rests on fast-paced action of Kicks 2 vs. the finesse and technique of Kicks 3.

Sincerely,

Mikhail

Edit = Just wanted to add that Kicks 2 and 3 have immensely different spine logos, and as such, both end up looking great on one's shelf.
