I've got a well used, but still functioning Midway Galaga upright. Was in the middle of playing it today when I noticed the fire button stopped responding as quickly. Thought it was the leaf switch and removed the CP. Button is in order, however the game is now in rapid fire mode. All I have to do is hold the button down, and it wasn't like that before.

I have the rapid fire board, looks like this : http://cgi.ebay.com/MIDWAY-GALAGA-R...ryZ13718QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

Does anyone now which connector posistion is normal? I haven't switched the connector over, and I don't believe I have the 6J chip hack. Haven't opened up the cab yet to mess around.

Those boards have issues with the custom chips. Clean the legs on the chips and resocket them.

Are you sure its not the enhancement kit fitted, that allows selection of fast or slow ?

Yep, but you can only have two bullets in the air at any time, so its not like machine gun fire.

Have you actually seen the rapid fire mod on that board, is it that pcb you linked to earlier ?

Otherwise it can be done with an eprom change at 3J which makes it permanent rapid fire.

Or an enhancement kit which alows selection of the fire speed, along with some other nice features like memorising high score.

Its not like Galaxian compared to Galaxian Part IV where the whole game speeds up and you also get bendy bullets :)

Edit: shouldnt this be in Arcade Central ?

No, I don't have any add ons. It's the original setup, had been in an arcade in NC for many years. It even still had the RF filter PCB attatched to it, was causing the blue signal not to reach the monitor.

Well, I moved the connector over and that changed it back to normal fire. It doesn't change rate shots, just allows you to hold the button down and continously take shots.

That is auto/continuous fire which is a different thing again. It is just a timmer trigger on the fire button switch. Here is something that will do the same thing.

PS.... "RF filter PCB attatched to it, was causing the blue signal not to reach the monitor."
More likely a bad connection on the monitor was the cause of that, in the process of removing the filter you must have moved some wires that brought back the blue ;)
