I think my mvs may be fried but I don't know how to confirm this.

I turned on my cab today to be greeted by a black screen and no sound. It has power as the monitor is drawing the black screen and it has that unmistakable crt buzz. The cab has been sat there for a week, since last time I used it and hasn't been touched since. I tried a few other carts in it and have the same issue.

Have any of you guys experienced this before? I just want to find out if there may be a problem with the mobo before i go ahead and buy another to test it with. I don't have a supergun or another cab so I can't really test the mobo myself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

check the power supply. If the LED on the PSU and MVS board isn't lit, it's probably a good indication of a dead one.

Never owned a 1F, if it's there it's probably close to the jamma connector.

Just get a voltmeter and check voltage output from the powersuppy.

Well what kind of PSU do you have in your cab. It's either an open switching one like this (in my 6 slot): http://www.happcontrols.com/powersupplies/80006400.htm or an enclosed one like this (in my 4 slot): http://www.happcontrols.com/powersupplies/80007200.htm

It's like the second one you have in your 4. It's all a bit old and isn't even a proper cab. Just the sort of thing us in the uk where used to finding in chip shops and cafes in the 90s. It was a bespoke(fake) SF2 cab. I can provide photos if that helps.

No need. Checking voltage might be easier with that one at the jamma edge, compared with poking and prodding at the molex connectors trying to figure out what pin is what.

I see a Red LED right there near the 5 volt adjustment knob. Does that light when switched on? You monitor would still receive power because the AC runs directly to it through an isolation transformer.

The LED is dead. Not even a flicker.

check any fuses (if there are any) that are before the PSU. If they're good, your PSU is most likely shot.

There is one in the plug that goes in the wall but if that had gone the monitor wouldn't have power. Any idea where i'd find any others? Sorry to be so n00bish about this. I'm just a bit gay when it come to this stuff.

possibly around the ac line filter splitting off going to the PSU.

Cheers dude. I will get a voltmeter and have a look later this weekend. You have been awesome, like a nerdy sherlock holmes without the opium :buttrock:

Right. I never got anywhere with this and have been told this isn't a standard jamma cab. I wouldn't know to be honest, but would love to just swap out the PSU.

Would it be easy to get away with that? I live in the UK. A suggested replacement would be awesome.

Thanks.

UPDATE

Problem now resolved thanks to Mr-Megalo sending me the correct PSU. I had no idea the 110-240 was just a switch on the bottom of these things or I would have got one from Happs ages ago.

Oh well, I'm a spaz.

Thanks again Mr-Megalo.
