Problem: Getting garbled video on AES

I JUST bought a NEO that looks to be in brand new condition. The problem is when I try and run a game I have to reinsert the cart multiple times to get the games to run without the text and graphics being distorted. I've tried cleaning the cart contacts, and I've blown compressed gas in to the slot to see if I can remove any excess dust. Unfortunately this does not help. I have NEVER had this problem with another AES I had.

If I do get the game running right and I press the reset button the graphics go out again and I have to try reinserting the cart a few more times to get things to clear up. Sometimes turning it off and on again helps but most of the time I have to take it out and reinsert the cart. Anyone have any ideas I could do to fix my problem? I bought this on eBay and I don't think the seller will help me without a fight.

If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance. :crying:

Do the cartridge slots feel loose, normal or tight?

Seems pretty tight to me. I don't notice any looseness when taking out or inserting carts. It's just a real crap shoot. Some times the games load ok with no issues, but as soon as I reset or turn it off and come back later, glitch city.

Not sure then. You could always send it to me for inspection.

I was using a smaller slot cleaning card that you could use on the Snes. It wasn't the same as the canned stuff but wasn't too bad. I'll try the slot cleaning stuff. Probably hit a Radio Shack or something some time today. Thanks for all help offers.

Well both contacts on the carts AND the slot in the AES were cleaned yesterday using the cleaning solution from Radio Shack. I waiting about 8 hours to ensure that the slots were dry. After trying it again I still seem to be having the exact same problem. I have some other games coming next week. If the problem persists I will have to file a dispute. Thanks for the ideas for help guys.

Dumb question but turn it on multiple times with no cartridge installed.

What color screen do you get when it finishes the self tests?

Looks like the self test color is normal blue. I think that means it passed the self test but Z80 wasn't tested. I can't wait to get some other games to see if this happens with all titles or just the 2 I have. I'll have more options at my disposal when that is clear. Thanks for the help!

Does it really do a self test? What comes up?

The screen just flashes a bunch of colors and based on the color it stops on you can tell the status of the system.
