What a beautifully crafted game this is, and hte music is some of the best on the system... but anyways...

How the fuck do you defeat that damn crab at the end of level 2 - he's driving me nuts!!

Someone please haylp!!

ahahaha

the viewpoint crab

I've tried many techniques on this bitch.. I find hammering with normal shots is better than charging and hitting it.

Its the bubbles usually.. dodge them as much as you can.. then shoot when you really need to.. alas they get smaller and harder to see (and dodge) like this..

Have you got it down to the brain thing yet?

I've only beaten it once, mind you.. I never actually bothered going back to it after that..

level 3 is quite solid too

yeah, the brain thing

concentrate on really hammering its claws off.. dont use any supers here..

when both of its claws go, it'll mutate into a brain.. this brain is hard..

keep dodging its purple things and hammer away for .. oh about half an hour (j/k)

then use supers..

bing! the fucking crab will explode.. about 1 in every 1000 tries

Actually, you don't need to blow off its arms first. I would say its a waste of time even. Use the regular shots to blow up the bubbles down to size and go around them as they approach you. Charge your shots in between manueuvers and blast the center of the crab. Save your bombs to clear out the bubbles if they overwhelm you. Once you destroy the crab you have to fight the 'brain'. Just concentrate on moving from side to side and use your regular shots to slowly destroy it. Do not stay in one place because you will die.

I like to rely on what I call the "semi-auto" technique...

When the crab spews bubbles, use barely charged shots (when they look like bolts rather than a large blast). You can crank these out pretty fast to help break up the bubbles, then fire regular shots rapidly to pop the little bubbles. It's almost worth it to just concentrate on the bubbles rather than worry about the crab, since he eats so many shots, you start getting impatient waiting for him to die rather than keeping yourself alive amidst the bubble strewn chaos. Just hold, tap, hold, tap and you can crank out a stream of bolts rather than regular bullets...you can bust out a lot more firepower than just pounding out regular shots or charging to full capacity. Give it a shot, I can regularly beat the crab with this method. The third boss and fourth level are another story though.

Christ, if the level 2 boss is so hard I cant imagine what the rest of the game is like. The thing sounds like one of those impossible tasks in hell.

third one is pretty easy, boss aside

quite difficult but once you know what to do,
not that difficult

but guys

wait till you reach the skull
boss of the fourth level

that is the hardest boss in my opinion

i once broke my joystick in frustration

If there was a video game equivilent to sado-masochism that is probably it. That or having to beat E.T. for the Atari.

HORAYYY!!! I finally kicked that crabs ass. What worked for me was changing from a pad to arcade stick - gave better control and better button bashing :D

Viewpoint is hard - but exteremly rewarding. If you die it's your fault. The game isn't cheap and the collision detection is spot on... it's a great challenge...

To think they squeezed all this into just 74 megs is outstanding... in terms of quality this pisses on so many large meg games.

Just a shame Sammy aren't programming for the NG anymore :(

Have got to the moth now on stage 3....

BTW, level 5 can't be any harder than the final level of King of Monsters 2 - that is fucking impossible...

Sorry Tarma you have 4 previous bosses then the skull which has four sides to deal with, each side gets increasing hard and when you die or continue you dont get anymore bombs

and there is another level after that one

I'm sorry I refuse to believe you can come across a cheaper, nastier, more frustrating, more difficult level than the last one in KOTM 2. Even tho you get infinite continues it's hard as fuck... and the main last boss... well.... don't even get me started on that bastard...

At least the Viewpoint bosses are fun to fight. Perhaps hard is the wrong word - challenging is better... and it's certainly more rewarding than KOTM 2...
