I finally started working on my 6-slot. My main goal is to get into my basement. As most of you know, these cabs dwon't fit through a standard house door opening. So I decided to start pulling mine apart. Pulling the top from the bottom took about 2 hours, which include pulling the electrical components. While some pieces are salvagable, many broke apart. In case you were wondering, these cabinets are held together with staples and wood glue. I'm finding that it easier to just remake all these parts. Not to mention my sides were damaged from shipping. Also the bottom edges have bad water damage. Basically when I'm done with project, I will have a new 6-slot MVS and it will be able to disassemble so it can be moved in several pieces. In addition to looking new, I'm going to customize the cabinet by making the coloring look like a gold cab with custom-themed side art. The cabinet structure should be done this weekend, but the final touches won't be completed until I return from Japan in four years. At least this will give me time to get the artwork done. By the way, I'm taking pictures of my progress as I go. I'll post them if someone can explain to me how to post pics.

The cabinet is all built and the bottom half is covered. All that is needed now is the laminate on top, the molding, and custom artwork. The cabinet turned out great and the best part is that it fits between my doorways by beaking down into three components and reassembling with wood screws. It looks completely original from the outside. The only downfall was that I had to re-make 80% of the cabinet from new particle board. The only parts that were reused were the back panels. I should have pics up in a few days. Unfortunately the final touches won't be done for four years when I return from Japan. How many people can say they have a full-size 6-slot MVS cabinet that fits through a standard size door?

what parts will take years to get?
The parts won't take years to get, I just don't have anymore time before I leave for Japan (tomorrow). I still need someone to make me a CPO in gold cab colors. That will be the only piece that will take some time to get a hold of.

The project sounds cool, but maybe I'm missing something... Is there some sort of a gold cab that's been around that you're trying to recreate?

The only gold cab I've ever seen is mine that I picked up about a month ago and haven't had the time/money to convert yet to an MVS yet(and I'm lazy, but I really am poor right now).

Mine is actually a Defender cab that was painted over with a nasty gold color that's nauseating to look at at first sight.

Here's a picture of it:

And here's a link to my Flickr page if you want to see any my room and other stuff:

Oh and if chris1 isn't around and you need something hosted, let me know.

I finally have my pictures available. You'll get an idea of seeing it from taking it apart to putting back together. Altogether, it took me about 4 days and $200 worth of materials. Like I said earlier, I remade almost everything from new wood. The bottom is already covered in black laminate and I won't have a chance to finish the project until I get back from Japan in four years. At least it is back together, works, and best of all...fits through my house doors.

I only had a little bit of time to build, so I didn't have a chance to draw up the plans. I took great care to pull apart the old cabinet so that its main pieces can be used as templates. I did however keep one of the original sides for a future project (probably as decor or make a table out of it).
