I plan to build a supergun but have trouble in placing the ports I first thought I could do it by eye and using a tape measure but think there must be a better technique. I was curious what are some tips in this area, should I print out a layout I would make on my computer like in photoshop then get some carbon paper and trace over the project box? If anyone gots a better idea let me know pls, Thanks in advance.

What i have done in the past is find a old PC sound card that has the DB-15 game port. Take the metal bracket off and just use the port and screw holes for your template. Just a scratch awl or tack to mark out the material to remove. I then drill out and dremel the rest out. Hit it with a heat gun just to smooth the edges and you should be good to go.

I used a caliper to determine the cutout sizes and then drew them right on the box, adjusting as necessary and finally cutting out my marked areas.

I always use the DB15 connector itself to draw an outline. It is the easiest way. :spock:

buy a punch

Look who posted NGT whats up, I was just reading your old threads about your first supergun and then your ham type diagram which by the way was great at its time. I decided to wing it and do it by measuring with a tape measure then use the metal off a old sound card like Drewmantrivia said. I reg supergun.org to create a website forum dedicated to building superguns. I'll keep you posted.

thanks! Glad that thing is still being of some help to folks, but yeah...a bit behind the times. I haven't been keeping up on superguns or I might have done an updated one. Better audio wiring and component/neobitz etc...

I never had a punch either, as my plain old superguns had the square bracket of the db-15 on the outside, which definitely didn't look as cool as the others, but was easier to hide mistakes on the cut. lol.

If you want to see the very worst you can do, take a look at mine. The one on the right isn't even flat against the panel on the outside, due to a crappy hot glue job I did on the connections. And I had to put the brackets on the outside, because I chose to melt the holes using an old soldering iron.

But here's news... Nobody cares. The cosmetic problems aren't noticeable from far away, and since it's the only supergun my brothers and I have, we're just happy as long as it works.

True...in that a working supergun is the most important thing when it all comes down to it. I used a candle and an exacto knife to cut my holes. lol..I guess it also depends on if they are for sale purposes or not.

Yep. It's the biggest part to get shipped, so it's one of the few things I bought locally. I'm sure there are lots of superguns with the same case.

I also plan to use the same case for my first supergun. I bought it over a month ago but slowly gathering all the parts to put it together.
