Hey:

One of my all-time favorite Neo games is Art of Fighting 3. I love the Ultimate K.O.'s and the "Virtua Fighter in 2D" feel it has. But I very, VERY rarely see this game brought up on the boards and it never gets mentioned in topics like "10 best Neo games EVER". Am I missing something here?

Granted, I have never played the MVS or AES versions, but when I owned a Neo CD, AOF 3 stole hours upon hours of my free time. Mark of the Wolves and the KOF series get a lot of play when talking about the best Neo fighters, but in my opinion, AOF 3 is a better fighting game than MOTW and is about on par with the majority of the King of Fighters series. The animation and soundtrack (I fucking LOVE that jazzy soundtrack) are just outstanding, its a lost classic.

So there, Art of Fighting 3 gets some recognition.

Yippie, you´re so right! ;)

Like i´ve said before, this legendary Series is the most underrated on Neo!
Even the third part, a true Masterpiece. Definately!
AoF III is the 2D-Virtual Fighter, for ALL these DUMBASSES!!!

AoF is brilliant too, like the whole Series...

Remember, AoF was much better than FF1, AoF II was better than FF2 and even FFS IMO!!!

For the series that it is....AOF truly does rock.
When you think about the time that it came out, AOF was truly a great fighter. I knew a grip of people that would dump SFII in a heartbeat just to get on AOF.
The series itself has progressivly gotten better too.
My problem is that I'm a Fatal Fury freak. Great sh*t, but even I have to admit that as it got up there...eh...it started loosing it's edge.
(Insert Tangent)
While i was greatly impressed with MOW, I hated the fact that they took out Terry's Rising Tackle...his freakin TRADEMARK move.
(Back)
Anyway...I would agree that AOF3 just does not get the press or hype that it does deserve. <img src="graemlins/drool.gif" border="0" alt="[Drool]" />

Well, it does look good... most of the time. The animation is a mixed bag, and the fighting feels a little off to me, like you press a button and there is not an instant responce... but you can't help but stand back and just stare in awe of how gorgeous it looks, and think man why was this not a more popular game. I think that for the most part the characters were unmemoriable, but it is just odd to me, why does AOF3 look so good compared to so many other games of its time. Could you imagine a SS or FF using the same motion capture techniques? Oh well, I got this game for $25 on MVS a long time ago, and was really impressed by it. I think it is deffinetly a lost classic,

@SonGohan:

Hey man, i won´t compare them too!!!

I really like the whole "Fatal Fury-Series!!!" Even the "Real Bout-Series" is worth owning, but if i had to choose, i´ll go with "Art of Fighting!!!"
Not really, i´ll take them ALL!!! :D

Actually there is not much to talk about it!

The serious quit in 1995.

Problem is they had good ideas, but instead to include them in one game they just spread the ideas over 3 episodes, with eac hone holding advantages and disadvantages of it´s own!

Nothing will happen. Sad but true!

I would have liked an AoF4, with Gameplay, grafx and String Combos of AoF3, char´s moves and abilities as spectacular as AoF2, and a storyline like either 1 or 3.

And balanced characters in case of abilities. At least in AoF2 they tried to achieve that!

But I am not sure if there are enough people who want an AoF 4, since they just play with the AoF-chars in KoF.

Chances are not very good.

Das einzige Problem, was ich im Moment noch habe, ist einen Fernseh-Verleih zu finden! :(

Ansonsten sieht alles ganz gut aus.

I like Art of Fighting 2 the most. It´s fast and furious :) It is a real classic Neo Geo game.

Art of Fighting 3 has great graphics, but I hate the delayed gameplay! You hit a button and nothing happens, it is just so annoying when the CPU just totally owns you and you can´t counter his attacks.

Technically, AOF 3 probably has the most unique control of any fighter on the Neo.

It does take some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, pulling off the moves is very easy. It just can seem a bit off after playing more traditional 2D fighters like KOF.

I love the whole 'Mexican' feel of the game. It's just so unusual a theme for a fighter. The motion capture was a brilliant idea- It was a bold experiment at the time for SNK - their attempt at doing something truly cutting edge with their (even in '96) aging MVS hardware.

AOF 3 is a great game.
