Yeah, apparently JoJo's is decrypted. Hopefully this means we can say goodbye forever to dead CPS-2 carts (and I can play my New Generation and Warzard again.)

All cps3 games are decrytited and its only been 8 days and emulator is almost near working perfectly. Within a week cps3 prices will plumite just like they should of years ago.

Ehh, I wouldn't expect prices to drop until the whole suicide cart situation is figured out. At least I hope not, cause I just dropped some cash on New Generation.

if they can be dumped properly they can be written back. very little if at all will need to be done to the original boards.

I was thinking though, what could they possibly do to eliminate the battery? There's no eproms like on CPS-2 boards, on either the motherboard or the security cart.

yeah I believe that the capcom chip that holds the security key is actually a custom capcom chip.....so it would not be that easy to rewrite it.

pull it high and work around it no need to rewrite it. im sure we could work around a custom chip and use decypted roms in the original board.

Why would people go for decryption for a system that'll offer you a few games.

Personally think it'd be more itneresting to decryp one of Namco's System's (256 or so) or rather Any of both Sega's Naomi's.

"because its there" is the reason

Because those "few games" are fucking awesome?

i wonder if theyll be able to make cds thatll boot without a cart.

that way you could just have a mobo with full ram and burn your games. :emb:

You'd still need a cart.

The procedure would be something like this.

1. Copy CD to computer
2. Run CD (or whatever files are on it) through decryptor
3. Burn CD back from computer
4. Open suicided cart
5. Pull off RAM that held decryption key
6. Insert a ROM containing the "identity" key (whatever would make NO changes to the data when used to decrypt)

Alternatively, if they've cracked it in a method which allowed them to find the keys (e.g., they decrypt it in exactly the same way it is decrypted in the cart), you could just burn the disc as it is and then put in a ROM containing the right key (the one that used to be in the RAM), although you wouldn't be able to use the same cart for every game.

Er, and also, I'm not sure of this. I've never owned a CPS3, nor do I specialize in cryptology, nor do I understand spanish (I really want to read that one guy's blog to know how this is done).

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I really can't figure how those carts can be modified. Of course, I don't know a thing about emulation, decryption and whatnot. If it is possible to boot a game from a CD-R without a cart, then CPS-3 software immediately becomes completely worthless, at least from a strictly gamer's standpoint.
