Hi gang,
New to the Neo forum (and forums in general, really), but I’ve done my share of lurking… This seems to be the best place to describe the problem I have with my AES modded with the Universe Bios and S-video. Serial # is 019417.
Not sure who did the mod as I acquired it that way, but it is experiencing video output issues. The display, whether running through the S-video, native composite (using a Genesis 1 composite cable), or non-native composite outputs on a 20" Phillips CRT appears to be oversaturated with red. Everything is perfectly legible, but the color is way off towards the red end of the spectrum. No other video source running through this TV has this issue.
This can be corrected if I depress areas of the case to the left and upper left of the cartridge slot while the game is powered on. Eventually the color will correct by doing this, but never by default when first powering the system on. Going through this process every time I fire the up the AES is not convenient.
I removed the case and inspected the soldering (to the best of my ability since I’m not exactly sure what I’m looking for), and the connections appear to be OK. I’ve used canned air and electronics cleaner from the ‘Shack to clean the PCB and cartridge slot, but that hasn’t made a difference. The cartridges I’m using are new-in-box (Nam, Magician lord, Sam Sho 2) and they all display the same discoloration. The cartridge slot itself does not appear to have any bent or broken connectors.
Also powered the unit on with no cartridge inserted and was greeted with a blue screen, which indicates things should be working properly, according to info I found in a different thread.
Thanks in advance for any insight on these issues…
