Awesome SG design idea. It does have some problems though. I don't see test and service switches and it uses the horribly low compatibility AD724/5. It also doesn't have a sync splitter or RGB output and the parts used look like crap.

Other than that it looks like an awesome setup though. Maybe if I get the time/money down the road I can design an improved PCB with a similar setup :)

P.S. it says on the PCB "MVS" so that explains the poor encoder choice. The AD724 does work with the MVS just not much else.

I think those 4 white squares are switches for coin, test, and service. I agree totally, the AD 724/725 suck butt if you want a all around good chip. You'd most def have to add a Jrok sync cleaner to it to fix alot of issues.

yeah, those white connectors are probably for test and service but why not just add tactile buttons onto the PCB? I actually add those to my SGs. They don't need to be large since you aren't slamming them often like the coin buttons. *shrug* still a kickass design though. Major probs to whoever did it lol.

BTW, is JROK selling the sync cleaners at a large supply now? I bought one of his test boards and it was pretty awesome. So far my ISL59885's have been handling everything but that board has an EL1883 and a mystery chip that cleans it as well so it works with everything I've thrown at it too. Be nice to know if he's still charging $10 or $15 for em.

Im not really sure. My friend Michael said last he knew of it jrok builds them in batches for supply and demand. The other weird thing is,Michael builds alot of Superguns, and he recommends jroks encoders the most as far as encoders in the USA goes, but he noted that sometimes he saw varried results with them and the sync cleaners on certain games.

They always fixed the issues with the american games like Primal Rage and Time Killers, but sometimes they caused a slight signal noise issue with some CPS 1 titles, and really bad signal noise on Survival Arts,a Sammy game. He said this tended to happen not too often,so its not a issue with every encoder and sync cleaner hes used from Jrok.

He doesn't even buy them from Jrok he said,he just has a customer order it himself when he is building a Supergun for them, along with ordering all the other parts needed, this way the customer knows what they are paying for exactly. He's built two of my Supergun kits, does fantastic work. I think I have a pic he gave me of a couple of others he did. Ill have to check.

HERE IT IS ! ! ! I still had it in a email!
Like I said,he builds really nice ones. He pretty much says"What do you want on it" then he tells you if he can do it,which for me he did,and then compiles a parts list with prices and links where to buy the parts. He has you do all the ordering, and after everything arrives he has you send it all to him at once,he spends 2 days, builds it,then ships it to you.

What I like about him is that he isn't trying to go out of his way to sell himself everywhere, which I noticed is a big problem on these forums,so I use him alot for my system mods and stuff. That and he lives close by me,about 30 mins away,so turn around for me is very fast. Its too bad though,he does not like doing the stuff much these days. He will off and on for someone, but strictly by request only. Not to stray too far off subject,Im actually over at his place right now. We have been working on a 3DFX Glide computer of his. He wanted to set it up and have me play him at Quake 3 and a few other games for a bit via lan so he can give his comp a complete shakedown. He totally loves 3DFX stuff. I simply don't understand it,but I mean,to each their own. Anyway,I got to run. I need to play against him for a few matches then head home for bed,got to go to work in 12 hours :(

heh, that sounds just like how I do it. Takes me more than 2 days to build em though. I also don't make many these days as they just take too much time. If you're interested in seeing diff SGs you should check out those in my Arcade Works section on my site ;)

Nice to know the JROK is probably selling those sync cleaner boards though. I have yet to buy his larger encoder boards but I have seen and used them before and they are definitely top-notch.

I always thought the test switch was useful, but the service switch is not.

I think certain boards use the service and test switches to navigate the configuration menus.

The test switch, yes. But the service switch as far as I know only coins up the machine.

Amano is correct. While most PCBs just coin up some use it to navigate (and it is the only button that can do so. Michael Jackson's Moonwalker and Spiderman both need it to navigate in the test menu and it is the only button that can do so. I owned these games and realized my SG needed a service switch that I had not originally installed.

You can only navigate the naomi test menu (until you get into game test mode) with service and test. I've encountered a few shmups that are like that too (can't remember which ones).

Sorry if I cant see but why is there such a big fan on the SG but no openings on the front panel where the air can enter to increase the airflow through the SG?

I have a game or two where I'm not certain how to get into the setup menu, if there is one. I will try touching the service pin to ground once.

Originally when I built the supergun I tried to make one switch that did both the service and test, but that just made it so they were both on all the time, so I disconnected the service line.

Atomiswave needs both for the menus.

The case in the supergun pic is from PacTec.

For cross ventilation, the only option I can see is maybe there are holes on the under side. Or else it's stupid having a fan.

And why people go through all the effort to make a supergun but front mount the controller ports is beyond me. Just lazy.

So will you be selling superguns still D-Lite?
Yes, but not immediately. I still have to wrap up one project. I know many people have e-mailed/PM'd me but I just haven't been able to do any of it for many months now.

I'll start a new thread soon about this stuff. Let's not contaminate this one.
