Hi all,

(Flamesuit on)

It's my first post here, so please be gentle.

One of my Jamma cabs is currently living at a friend's house due to making space at home for our new baby.

I left him a nice supply of MVS carts and Jamma boards to play with, unfortunately he is having some issues with the MVS (1 slot - large kind with joystick adapters, headphone sockets etc).

We initially got some random sound corruption issues last week, that were resolved with a bit of cleaning and reseating of the carts.

Over the weekend the machine threw up a Z80 error, and then the graphics started to go crazy. The bios menu still displays ok, but when we load up any game, there seems to be a lot of graphical corruption. I have not yet seen the problem, but he describes it as:

"The whole screen is filled with vertical, parallel lines
about 1 cm apart. Some of the text and HUD boxes on some games appears
"through" it, but they are also "liney" and corrupt as well. For the most
part the screen is just a mass of regularly spaced, vertical lines."

Any advice as to what I should look at first please? The Z80 I think only manages the sound, so that might be a red herring.

The problem appears on all the MVS carts (6 tried).

(Flamesuit off)

Thanks in advance people.

Slot cleaning is a must.

Also, what did you clean the card edge connectors on the carts with? If it's damaging the edge connectors you will get this kind of problem.

The other thing to check is the power supply in the cab. If the filter caps have split open on top or busted out the bottom plug the output of the supply will be horribly "noisy" and cause all kinds of random problems.

I had similar problems (vertical lines) with a dirty MS1 cart. Just clean the cart, clean the slot, and try pressing the cart up/down/whatever to make sure it's making good contact with the board.

Thanks Guys,

We went through the usual routine of seating the carts at various angles and moving them around etc, with no joy.

I'll get some Isopropyl and a toothbrush and get cleaning on the slot. Hopefully this should do the trick. I'm popping over to see him later this week, so I'll let you know how we get on.

Time to get the multi-meter out as well by the looks of it.

Thanks again for you help peeps.
