Well, unofficially you can play pretty much any Playstation game you want. I haven't had problems with any. If you mean officially via PS3, I don't know. Would have to check.

There's a 3.03 downgrader available, but you will need an unpatched copy of GTA:LCS in order to initiate the exploit.

MVS, CPS/CPS 2, and PSX emus are near perfect. There's also a very capable GBA emu available as well.

If you want to play the games from Sony, the PS3 store has a list of games they support. It's kind of like Wii emulation, there's not a lot of them.

Plus, most of them are shit anyway. Even more when you compare it to the japanese list.

At least you have diversity on the VC.

Most of the games you can download via PS3 are early/launch PS1 titles. Tekken, Demolition Derby, I think Wipeout, Syphon Filter, etc.
One game I seen listed and downloaded right away was Jumping Flash, but for some reason it's no longer listed in the Playstation store..? Maybe items you buy no longer show up..?

Well you don't _have_ to; you can wait for the stuff to come out at the Sony store. However, I agree with you that it's pretty pathetic that hackers can come up with better PS1 emulation than Sony can.

what?

its using sony's official emulator , not a homebrew one

have you tried the PS1 homebrew emulator?

the hackers merely opened it up to all games, nothing more

Well, I hate to use the word "hacker", but I can't think of one better. What I meant was that the "hacked" mechanics allow you to take a copy of (I'm assuming here) a PS1 game you already own, burn an iso to memory, and play it on your PSP. The Sony way is to purchase a $600 PS3, wait for them to come out with your PS1 game, repurchase it for admittedly cheap, and then download it using the PS3 to the PSP. Hmmmm, which is more consumer friendly?
Probably they have to worry about negotiating rights to the old games, but still it's pretty obvious that they want to max the Sony bucks in the process.

The former is definitely more consumer friendly.
