I am thinking about getting this game, but haven't played it yet. Can you guys give simple explanation on what you liked/disliked about this game? And if you recommend the game or not? Thanks.

Like!

Cool chars with cool abilities, cool 2 player game!

Dislike!

Too short (6 levels with the last 3 having different ways), shitty unspectacular Endbosses

But... It´s fun!

I personally liked the game while others didn't. I wrote a review of the game on this site.

Ouch... I'd say stay away... at least for now. Maybe if the game were only 20 bucks I'd say get it. It's a completely mediocre game. You can play plenty of other beat em ups... not to mention that they will cost you a couple hundred dollars less. I'd say buy River City Ransom for the NES if you have one.

More like Double Dragon 2 and 3 :)

Actually Sengoku 3 is very nice looking in comparison, and there are some interesting enemies along the way (that bitch ghost with the severed female heads clumped together for example). The generic all in one ending sucked, but still, the characters look very good.

Yes, or double dragon... either way, you'd be getting a classic beat em up made by TECHNOS! King of all beat em ups!

I bought the MVS kit of it. I think it is a nice looking game and the gameplay is there....but it still feels....unfinished. There are only 3 levels? I haven't had enought patience to play through the ENTIRE game. I think it's kinda lame though how the enemies are the same throughout the games and they might throw in one NEW enemy for each NEW level. They still keep the old ones and just add a new one. I think the weapon thing also is kinda worthless........It's got great potential, but I was left feeling it wasn't really done........I'd give it about a 80%. I think it's worth the $200 for the MVS kit....that's about it.........

Yep, the thing that really sucks about Sengoku 3 is that you have to play these 3 relatively long levels for the game to actually start (you also get 2 more characters after you play the first 3 levels). 2 of the last 3 levels are done very well (I really liked Brazil). For the most part, the game is just swimming in so-so'ness.

I realize I'm getting in on this discussion late, but I wouldn't recommend Sengoku 3 unless you can get it cheap secondhand. Only 6 levels (with only a few enemies repeated ad nauseam), pretty backwards game play (you can't even block), average graphics and so-so animation. The last boss is incredibly cheesy (very tough, uses a lot of cheap tricks), and once you beat him, you don't have much incentive to play through the game again. I wouldn't pay more than $100-120 for a Sengoku 3 AES, maybe upwards of $150 if I was really drunk and holding my checkbook at the same time.

The music is quite good, though. Mostly upbeat techno stuff that works really well (and this is coming from someone who hates techno music). I especially liked the music on the Japan and Italy stages.

While I agree that the music is good, I can't agreeon the techno feel. I have one stage's tune stuck in my head right nwo and I can tell you it ain't techno. Upbeat yes, but not techno. I guess I'm thinking stage italy...

You know what's really bad - I don't feel like actually putting that game in my machine to find out what stage music I've got stuck in my head... I'd rather not play it actually. I guess the game just sucks then...

For some reason I couldn't get the china stage music out of my head today and so I played the game again - a lot. It's actually a very good game. There are too many times when it's just plain shitty. Too many enemies on screen to deal with, damage intake inevitable - you've heard it before.

But the game is very very good. I am glad I bought it (for $200) The game has a lot of enemies actually, but the diversity is all in the latter levels. :-/ The first levels have maybe 3 enemies (sword man, spear man, charging fat swordman, ninja chick, old man with flies in his clothes), but the second group of stages have a lot more... It's tough, but as you get better it's really cool - you feel like you have accomplished something to get past a level without having to continue :) - a level other than China that is - china really is the easiest level.

There are 6 levels, and the levels aren't really short. I'd say the game as a whole takes as long to beat as Metal Slug 3. But in Metal Slug 3 you don't have Okuni (Sengoku's bouncy redhead). The broad selection of characters and their special abilities is also a nice addition.

So in closing, I guess the game is worth buying. It's a good game.

Ok so what do you think about the first generation of SNK beat-em all?
-2.5/10 for mutation nation for example.

Sorry, DJBomberman, just got the game today. I had time to play about an hour or so, so here's my quick impression. The most positive things I can say about this game, is the sound. The graphic is decent, as is the gameplay--with simplified, but intutive control (as about much you can get out of a side scrolling action game)

To tell the truth, I didn't really expect that much out of Sengoku 3. I really didn't like the previous Sengoku's. Though I am dissapointed that they removed the parry option in this ver, this is my favorite of the series. I haven't really enjoyed the traditional side scrolling game since the days of SNES/Genesis--well, till Saturn, if you include Guardian Heroes (BTW, I got Reverside Ransom for NES, when it came out). Yep, it's cool. I even though D&D series to be mediocre. Having said that, Sengoku 3 is probably the best action game. For me, it beats Magican Lord, Cross Swords 1& 2, etc. At this early glance, I would give it a 7.5. It's not that hard for me, but I guess it's because I haven't faced the final boss.

Ok leave it to me to raise old threads from the dead...

I just bought Sengoku 3 as I loved the first one, and I'm awaiting the 2nd installment.

The music is good, and I like the way its designed. I find it low in volume however but not too low. I was dying for a good rock/guitar tune but to no avail. China had a good tune and I like the chanting in the beginning of the Brazil stage music. Thats another reason why I liked Sen 1, the lyrics in game music back in 1991 was an amazing thing. I'm disappointed however that there was no speech in Sen 3.

Sen 3 is quite different than 1 or 2. It operates like a fast Final Fight with 100% japanese anime overtones. Sprites are very bright, and the game appears very modern enough. I bought mine for 159 new and I like it enough. What really sells me for this game are the combos and always knowing that I can be as aggressive with the characters as I feel like, and it won't matter. The game can be as good as you make it. And its one of the best if not the best beat'em ups available for AES. And I've played most of them.

BTW, i'm not a 1 on 1 fighting game purist either, so beat'em ups are up my alley. Hell shooters are my fav games anyway.

advice - do not play on default difficulty.

put it at 8. It's not unbearably hard. I think the difficulty meter should have been called diversity.

basically the more difficult you set it, the more variety of enemies you face.
