Finally going to pick up a PSP tomorrow and will grab a few games as well.

I have read some reviews but other than a GTA games (not sure which one I will get) I am not sure what to pick up.

Here are some of the games I am thinking about and would like some suggestions on these or other games. I will probably pick up three or so games with the system.

Monster Hunter Freedom
Every Extend Extra
Loco Roco
Gitaroo Man Lives
Tekken
GTA (not sure which one)
Pursuit Force
Power Stone Collection
Hot Shot Golf
Capcom Puzzle World
Out Run

Any suggesions would be appreciated. Are there some better games out there that I am missing?

Power Stone works much better on psp than I would have thought...Definitely a lot of fun. Outrun I loved a lot, also.

Besides the other stuff you listed, check out Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins and MGS: Portable Ops (and if you don't hate card games, MGAcid 2. Actually, I do hate card games, and I still liked this one).

I've had the most fun with Gradius Collection. You should be able to get it for fairly cheap too if your interested in it.

Hot Shots Golf is godly good.... and you couldn't go wrong with Tekken either unless you don't like the series.

I had forgot that Ghosts 'n Goblins came out. I should look in to the Metal Gear games as I always enjoyed the series.

Out of your list, I'd definitely suggest Loco Roco (though I'd try this one out first), Gitaroo Man Lives, GTA: Vice City Stories, and the Power Stone Collection (assuming you enjoy the DC/NAOMI versions). Out Run's pretty cool too, but I'd try a demo or something before you buy it.

Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops: Just get it. :p Shinobido Homura's another game I'll recommend. It's similar to Tenchu, but a lot better in my opinion. Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins is pretty good, assuming you liked the original. Definitely grab Ridge Racer 2 if you want a decent racer, and possibly Taiko Drum Master 2 if you're open to imports.

Tekken is a must if only for the pretty graphics :)
Loco Roco is very cool, my girlfriend and the little ones in the family loved it as well
wipeout pure
ridge racer
metal slug anthology-this i played the most

Funny you just bought one and I sold mine (friend sold his as well) just not enough games. I've owned it since new and haven't quite played a dozen games. However its great if you use it for emulators and non game media also.

Ulitimate Ghosts N' Goblins is a must have, considering I got mine for $14.99 new at a K mart.

other "musts"

* Tekken: Dark Ressurection
* Metal Gear Solid: portable ops
* Dj Max Portable 2 <-- you'd have to import it.
* Loco Roco

Most of the games on your list won't disappoint.

Gitaroo-man is awesome, especially if you haven't played the original. If rhythm-based games are your thing , then definitely check out the DJ Max Portable series.

BTW,I have a few games on that list...perhaps we can work out a swap for that CV: POR DS of yours ;)

Just get Gitaroo Man on the PS2, asshole.
I don't care how much it costs you.
Just do it.

I don't own a PS2 anymore and that is in part, the reason that I decided to pick up a PSP again. After having a couple of game stores and getting stuck with a high number of faulty PS2 systems, I have been a little anti Sony for a number of years.

However, the PSP is a quality system and I have to give them credit for that. I think it is actually a better system for someone like me that doesn't already have a way to play a lot of the great PS2 games. While the PSP games may be different, they are similar to a degree.

I still own two DS systems but the PSP is a nice change.

EDIT:I guess I should post what I picked up today.

A PSP system with two dead pixels:oh_no: They are in the top right and don't bother me, so I am keeping it.

GTA Vice City Stories-This is really a great game. I can't believe they are able to do this on a hand held. (Also picked up Liberty City Stories for future play)

Hot Shots Golf

Pursuit Force

Power Stone Collection

Monster Hunter Freedom (Have no plans to start this anytime soon, I just don't see it around that often and didn't want to look for it six months from now)

I still may pick up a few games but I am having a blast with GTA Vice City Stories and Hot Shots Golf.

If you get more games, get Every Extend Extra. Great addictive gameplay like the doujin original.

I'm also a huge fan of the Metal Gear Acid games but I guess they are an acquired taste as they demand great patience at times.

Well, that is a game I have thought about picking up. However, after watching the videos, I still really can't tell how it plays. Is it similar to anything else out there?

Think of Shining Force/Vandal Hearts mixed with card battling.

The game is turn-based and you move around on a grid. As it's stealth-based your character can also be made to crawl and press up against cover. All enemies have a line-of-sight and if you move into it, obviously they will spot you and go from just being on regular patrol to actively hunting you down.
Weapons/items and abilities are assigned to cards. Before each mission you get to pick 30 cards to be in your deck. During the game you have a maximum of 6 (I think) cards in your 'hand' and you can use any of those. With each card you can either use its ability (heal/shoot/gain extra power/whatever), or use it to move, or just discard it if its useless to you.
Once you have used up all 30 cards, the deck is reloaded/reshuffled and you just keep on going.

You typically have just 2 characters to move around - Snake and a lass that joins you after a while - so turns can be pretty quick and it keeps the game moving.

Tactics come in the form of correctly stacking your deck(s) (the 2nd character has their own seperate deck) before each mission, saving or discarding cards in your hand to try and keep your hand constantly 'strong' in case you get into a tight spot, and also moving while avoiding the patrols, which work almost identically to a regular MGS game.... only turn-based.

There is a shitload more to the games than what I've described, but it would take ages to type it all up.

I'll also add that I really HATE the MGS games, but I really, really like the Ac!d games.
Go figure.

I'd recommend starting with Acid2. The stories aren't connected, so you don't need to play 1 to get into 2, and the interface and controls are MUCH improved. For example, in the first game, it takes a seperate move to change the direction you are facing, or to crouch, making it harder if you need to crawl under a truck or into a vent. In Acid2, you can crawl, change direction, flatten against a wall, knock, or punch at any point during a movement, which makes things a lot easier. I think the learning curve is easier in 2, also.

And like I said earlier, I usually don't like card games (and I'm not super crazy about turn-based games in general), and I still loved both the Metal Gear Ac!d games. I was soooooo disappointed when they first announced that the Metal Gear game on PSP would be a card game, but they really work so much better than I would have expected. And now that there is a regular MGS game on the system, it's the best of all worlds.

I second Southtownkid's statement.
Also, MGA1 has crazy slowdown.
MGA2 is far from perfect, but I seem to remember it being a bit better.

I'll be picking it up then. I agree 100% about how enjoyable the first one is, very much suprised by this, but it is great. the tempo is nice too. just great, relaxing gaming.
