Well, I'm kind of considering making an Atomiswave my next arcade purchase. I know there are PS2 ports which are perfect or near perfect, but I rarely play console games anymore. So, is the AW worth picking up? I'm pretty new to it, so any advice would be appreciated.

Kernow: please don't respond.:p

the prices are comin down, however i still think there are better games on the neo & CPS2 hardware.

I'd pick up a Naomi before an Atmoiswave anyday., but thats just my preference.

I bought one and dont regret a damn thing. The games are slowly coming down in price, and the cheaper games are really good.

I say go for it...

Well, I'm pretty stocked up on neo and Cps2, so nothing to worry about there.:D

I plan to get a naomi eventually, but I'm waiting to find a nice bundle since capcom i/o's are hard to come by and expensive when they pop up.

I'm leaning towards it, just looking for a nice package to get started with. Let's say I could only get one game (reasonably priced, no MS6, fotns, ss6) what should I go for? I was thinking Neo Geo Battle Colisseum, Guilty Gear Isuka or Dolphin Blue.

By the way, any pics of the Hyper yet?:tickled:

No good?

I suppose 1.5 is much better, eh?
Owned Isuka for less than 24 hours before I returned it to Rhino.

Using a button to turn around and no insta-kills makes the game feel awful to me.

I guess I might pass on it then. Thanks for the heads up.

To those of you who have one, how hard is it to rig this up for use in a normal JAMMA cab? It works fine on a low-res monitor, correct? I suppose I need to get some type of kick harness for button 5?

Sorry for all of the noob questions.:emb:

to my knowledge it's jamma standard as well, just wire up the 5th button to the jamma harness, pin d|26. (same pin the "Game Select" button on the MVS 2/4 slot.)

With the best Atomiswave game now on PS2 (Hokuto No Ken) Its time to buy a naomi!!! . . . . . Then again, seeing as EVERY good Naomi game was ported to the DC buy one of those instead!

I was one of those that waiting quietly for a few great games to come out on the system... I waited and waited... and now the system's dead, with no games that really made me scream. And yeah, the ones I want are already ported. I'd say pass and get a CPS2 (which you may already own, or should if you like arcades even sort of)

What about Naomi 2? That's a system that's worth owning.

Is Naomi 2 compatible with any naomi 1 gd-roms or carts?
cuz I got a big problem with the Sega's Naomi 2 and Capcom's CPS3 Hardware.

These systems cost an assload just to buy the hardware, and what do you get. maybe 1 or 2 good games on each system.
Go with the Naomi 2 or NAOMI 2 GD-ROM and you can get Virtua Fighter 4 EVO, aside from that, Cart racing games, Initial D & Virtua Striker III...
Go With CPS3 you can get Street Figher 3rd strike (absolutly kick ass title) however they only ever made 6 games for the system, so unless your a fan of JoJo Bizarre Adventure your pretty much stuck with 2nd Impact, 3rd Strike & "SFIII: New Generation"

No doubt these creators wanted to make the next big thing, but without production teams developing titles for these systems It's a lost cause.

I am concentrating on the big three for now, Neo-Geo, CPSII, & Naomi 1 (when i can afford it) each systems have numerous titles that are fun, addicting and not too pricey either.

Naomi 1 carts include

Marvel Vs Cacpom 2
Dead Or Alive 2
VIrtua Tennis 2
Virtua STriker 2
Rival Schools 2
Virtua NBA
WWF
Guilty Gear X
Powerstone 2
Crazy Taxi

amongst others. If you want to go GD rom you get

Capcom Vs Snk 2
Ikaruga
Guilty Gear XX
Melty Blood Act Cadenza
Mobile Suit Gundam
StreetFighter Zero 3 Upper
Viruta Golf
Virtua Athletics
Psyvariar 2
Trigger Heart Excelica
Trizeal
Border Down
World Series Baseball

And then you got the Naomi 2 which is backwards compatible anyways which adds in

Virtua Figther 4
Virtua Striker 3

Along with CPS2, Naomi is the most varied, affordable arcade platform around! If you like fighters or shooters then a lot of the good ones are on naomi.

Atomiswave is alot cheaper and easy to get a good collection
Almost all the good games are decently priced on atomiswave. There may not be much but its surely easy to get them all. Within less than a month of getting my Atomiswave I had 6 games for it.

Naomi carts are harder and harder to find and the DC ports of those games are perfect. Plus the simple fact that the DC can use VGA right out to a moniter or a HD helps alot. All of your look sharp and crystal clear. The 3d games on a low resolution rgb arcade moniter dont even compare to the quality they could. Naomi and atomiswave are both novality systems. Theres no point in getting them as every single game worth own has been ported and is better than arcade perfect for the most part. KOF XI loads and looks better on PS2 on a DVD than it does on atomiswave on cart. Plus they even put in 480p on KOF XI. SNK never supports progressive scan but for arcade yet they did it for all there atomiswave titles to ps2.

I have a naomi sitting on the ground collecting dusk and an atomiswave barely getting any use. They day of getting good value out of buying arcade hardware is dying out just like the arcde market. A board simply really only gets about 5 to 15 titles before they jump to a new hardware.

If Lindberge keeps going and can stay strong it might be another naomi. Only problem is its $3000 and every game has come out on console with updated graphics and improved AI and features. Its all novality now man.

Only KOF XI does. MS6, Rumble Fish, Fist of the North Star, Neowave and something else all dont support progressive scan. The only reason I own a atomiswave is to play the games on my hdtv without ghosting and grain of 480i.
Press triangle + X at the start of KOF XI to enable 480p on ps2.

Wanna talk about something dissopointing. Metal Slug anthology for wii is the only game on the system thats in 480i. I was so hoping that it would be forced to offer 480p like every other damn game on the wii but it didnt. Plus the fact that when you use the wii mote as controller they didnt map bombs to a button. You shake the controller to throw bombs. How can I shake a controller, jump and dodge all at the same. Its just crap. Pressing buttons on something while shaking it in the first place is rediculously flawed. The psp port has slow downs like crazy and the graphics simply dont look right. I've yet to bother with the ps2 version but, I can't envision it being any better. I wonder once SNK starts supporting virtual console if there neogeo games will be 480p since every other VC game uses a emulator and does support it.

i was severely disappointed with the wii anthology too. nintendo needs to realize that a lot of people care about stuff like 480p. the game looks like shit in 480i on an sdtv too. really blurry. and the older games are terrible too. running in the wrong resolution so everything deforms when it scrolls.

ive heard that the stand alone ms6 port on ps2 is the best one, but it still doesnt support 480p and has muffled sound.

and whats with the ports using different sound effects too. like the "thank you" from the prisoners, even the gun shots.

cant wait till the aw cart is around $50-$100

yeah. An Atomiswave is good to get. There's good games for it and it's relatively alot cheaper than before. Some of the newer games are still a little expensive, but buy a setup and buy them later on.
