So how much is the hardware improved? Does it still play your pgm 1 carts?

what would be cool is if Cave moved to this format for future releases. :drool_2:

Unlikely innit? I thought only IGS released on PGM.

Still, this is more what I had in mind for potentially sustainable new arcade hardware.

DDP 2?

Not to mention they use the PGM hardware on all their boards already

That was just the second generation boards, no?

I think they used it for DOJ, Ketsui, and Galuda.

I'm surprised it's 2D only, from the looks of the video. I wonder if an ARM based system, based on a reference board.

IGS developed DDP2, not Cave (It's the KOF2002 of shooters ;))

I don't know whether they do or don't use the same hardware as PGM on their boards though. I'm not familiar.

The Generation 2 PCB's are almost identical (spec wise) to a PGM if i remember correct. Its the Generation 3's that are beefier.

I was'nt Impressed tbh (graphically)....i could'nt even tell if it was high res or even improved over titles like Knights of Valor 2.

Crappy video Quality though i guess....the actual game looked kick ass though!

I bet this new hardware will be similar to Cave's Gen 3 boards, sporting a Super-H CPU (probably an SH3 or SH4).

They might go the way of the ARM, but I doubt it.

Probably SH-4. It's the closest thing we have to the popularity of the 68000 and a common arcade platform these days since so many companies have been working on the Dreamcast/Naomi/Hikaru/Atomiswave

Same.

Very powerful CPU for 2D games that requires no cooling whatsoever.

Maybe Cave will port some of their Gen 3 games over to it if that happens .

Hah keep dreaming.

I wonder what the price tag is going to look like. PGM's titles have always been on the "cheaper" side when compaired to other new titles. I'm taking a total guess here, but I bet the system will be in the $450 range at launch, and titles about $300 a pop.
