So I have a new astro, and I've been playing more and more shmups lately. The preblem (if it is one) is that the image on the screen grows and shrinks with varying brightness on screen. Sometimes 3/4". This causes some minor lapses in accuracy in manic shmups... is this shrinking/ growing thing normal? any fixes/thoughts?

It may well be about caps :smirk: . What you have is bloating or balooning usually caused by poor regulation of the monitors power supply. Can be caused by a faulty electro.

you might also just have your contrast up too high.

go to something like a crosshatch test screen and adjust it to the point right before it starts to bloom and thats as high as your contrast should ever get.

hmmm... well I tried to lower the contrast, but it's pretty far under half right now and still blooms a bit (and most of the beautiful color is gone from my monitor by doing this). should I think about chassis replacement at this point?

Try a cap kit first, what type of monitor ?

The bad thing is that cap kits will help with a lot of blooming problems, but not all since they usually don't replace the main filter cap in the power supply of the monitor.

If the cap kit doesn't fix it then replace that big cap in the power supply section of the monitor.
