Well all right people, it's been a number of years but I'm finally getting back into the arcade scene. Since my 19" monitor on my first cab went white a couple of months ago, I've been on the lookout for a larger 25 or 29" cab, with a large control panel for 2 player gaming goodness. (i loved my first super dodge ball cab, but always felt a little cramped playing with 2 - 200 lb guys on a 26" width cab.

So I was looking locally in the interweb and boy what a find.
Batmanforever2.jpg

Say hello to THIS! my (almost new) dedicated Batman Forever! I did a little research on this one, Rumor is they only sold about 1000 of this crappy game because nobody wanted em, which is great for me cuz the cab itself has little wear, the monitor is bright & crisp & looked like a solid buy. so I ponied up the cash (375 CDN was his asking price) & took 'er back to Calgary.

Turns out the Cab is actually manufactured by Capcom USA, it's got a bright 25" Phillips M08X monitor. Switching Power Supply, The cab is also already setup for the Sega STV Titan USA mobo, with Batman Forever game board with Dedicated sound board. (one of the few titles with Stereo Sound)

I knew that 3 button layout looked a little too perfect. Installing a 6 button layout will be no problem with this one.

The system bios reads just over 11000 credits, witch is amazing for a cab made just 11 years ago. Although I am tempted to pick up a few games (Die Hard Arcade) and maybe a Jap bios to play Radiant Silvergun & Groove on Fight. truth is the cab is just to big & beautiful to be stuck in the Sega Saturn Era.

I have exciting plans for this monster. I'm still debating weather I should go the CPS2 route & wire that way. Or I could Mame it up using my Modded Xbox...

In any case I've got quite a bit of work to do Sanding & refinishing this beast, new t molding is a must but I'm excited to get moving on this project, I'll be sure to keep you all posted on it's progress.

Comments, questions welcome. Also if you guys know of any good sources for STV carts, hook a brother up.

Thanks.

Forever... for now

Couple things

1. The bios were your reading the credit history is for the stv board itself...not the cab. It should have a counter built into below the coin that tells you how credit have been inserted into it....depending on wether or not the op wired it up during the conversion.

2. This is not the official dedicated batman cab. Those were in Sega Titan cabs and though the production run was low, im sure they made more then a thousand cabs to go around with all the hype this game had behind it.

3. DONT MAME THIS THING!!! Its an original Capcom cab and you should restore it to its glory. I just recently bought one of these and after peeling off the crappy cp overlay the old owner had on it, I discovered a beautiful SFII CE cp under it..in minty shape. Also, if you want to replace the t molding because it is greyish looking, that is the way it is supposed to be. These cabs are not extremely common ( in these parts at least), and to see you mame this bitch would be a crying shame. Leave the xbox on a tv were it belongs...lol.

Checked out that counter it reads 121761, it wasn't hooked up after the conversion to batman.

I got a Marvel vs. Capcom CPSII on the way, and that should hold me over for awhile. anyone know where i can get a CPS2 kick harness?

A crapcom cab in a Neo forum, how fucking typical...

Well, this is a superb cab nonetheless I for one would restore that sucker to it's former glory, get some CPS2 boards, I mean damn! the best ones are reasonably cheap.

SSF2T, SF Alpha 1, Vampire Saviour, X-Men vs Street Fighter, with this few you'll have plenty of fun, at least more than a fucking XboX with roms that skip frames deceptively, plus you'll never apprecciate the games for what they are when you play them that way.

Leave the Xbox on the TV, arcade cabs like that one deserve better.

I must add the work you have to do is so minimal, it would be a crime to do something else, for crying out loud even the plexi looks ready to be drilled the extra holes.

AAARRRGGHHH! Lucky fuckoos, always getting what they don't deserve, I've been bitten by the Crapcom bug (Thanks DZ! Thanks a lot!) and that's the only cab I want capcom wise, I don't want any other, it looks gorgeous next to the MVS 4 Rev 3, beacuse they have about the same cleareance.

Well do what you want...in the end doing the wrong thing will only bring you regret.

yea i gotta say i got lucky with this one, finding out it's an official cps2 cab makes me thankful i decided to nab it afterall.

why anyone would put a Batman forever in there is beyond me. but thats ok, if it was anything else it'd be sold by now.

Some dude in my town just sold his ms. Pac-Man sitdown cocktail for $140. i couldn't believe it & called it right away, but it was gone

Ive decided that i will go CPS2 this sucker, I was planning to go that route anyway, & i got some other boards on the way that i'm happy about, MvsC, Puzzle Fighter, Alpha 3. can't wait

Hey awsome, I was thinkin about taking out the whole harness because I looked at it today & for some reason with this shitty batman game only button's 2, 3 & 4 are wired but button 1 is is not!!

course wiring the extra button is easy pesie but still is it even worth the trouble? might aswell get a new harness & Sell the complete kit, thats what I'm thinkin.

anyone know where to find a cool cps2 button overlay, shaped like mine?

Batman Forever doesn't actually use Button 1. If you consider rewiring the entire cab..I might be interested in buying the stereo harness from the daughterboard to the speakers of the Batman Forever game.

Those cabs are so tight. If all goes well, I will be owning one sometime in the not too distant future.

Dude, you really need to look at a CPS2 Jamma pinout and follow some logic, don't start cutiing/ripping wires if you don't know what you're doing, I mean you could easily have it all there and don't know it, get the kick harness and go form there.

One step at a time...

As far as the overlay, just get the diamond plate one that CPS2 SHock sales, and the Buttons overlay that get's secured by the buttons. Also you could print your own and put it under the plexi.

yup it's cool, all of the jamma wires are connected with those 9 Pin Molex connectors and other plastic bits. so i didn't have to cut any wires or anything, i think i'd like to make two harnesses, one for MVS/CPS2/Jamma, & the other for my Xbox Jamma Time Mode board i just picked up, get molex connectors for both that way i can make a fairly easy switch when i need to.

i'll have to talk to bob about getting some connectors.

yea i'd rather not split up the package, if you want i can take a pic of the connector for ya, it's probably pretty common

I think not! Look at it this way, Sokyugurentai, Raidiant, Virtua Fighter, DOA, Die Hard, and a binch more titles, there's no way this game can be better than them, but then again I haven't played it much, just a couple of times, but it was so forgetable I don't even remember what it was like.

I'd really like to find a Groove on Fight, Die hard Arcade, or any other horizontal shooter for the STV.

hookups?

If groove on fight is even remotely similar to the saturn port, you definitely don't want to mess with it.

The only horizontal shooters on the STV are the cotton games, IIRC. (unless you consider vertical gameplay with a horizontal screen as such)

well theres Terra Driver (Soukyugrentai), Guardian Force, certainly you haven't forgotten about Radiant Silvergun... really it's the only reason I'm holding onto this STV mobo atm.

Yes, that's what I meant.:)

Those are all vertical gameplay on a horizontal monitor.
