Alright man, you know those floating head/squid things that float around and shoot at you? What you have to do is, once you're on the floating platform, be jumping up and firing off a couple of shots before they even enter the screen. Even if you don't perfectly memorize how high up they appear you're better off this way because eventually there are simply too many for you to do it on reaction.
Once you're on the other side you don't HAVE to go into all the doors, the only one you need to go into is the one all the way at the end of the level. I would, however, go into the first and third doors, as I recall they have some useful stuff in them (not just bonus points). The subboss fortunately only has two attacks, and if you keep your distance from him you can beat him without a scratch.
There's a combination in this level in one of the rooms that turns you into the Raijin. That's the golden colored man that uses short range electricity for his attacks. AVOID THIS. It's a gold/yellow-ish sphere.
For the actual boss of the level you basically just have to duck in the low areas of the jaw-like cliff you're on to avoid the dragon-head's projectiles, then jump up and shoot his nose a couple of times, repeat. There's spikes that come out of the top part of the "jaws" you're in too but you have enough time to reposition yourself.
To save some time, when you get up to level four (I
LOVE the BGM for this level) it's the first of the much more mazelike levels you'll be in the for the rest of the game. There's MANY ways and places you can go here and I really haven't mapped them all out yet.
Fortunately though there's an easy way to the end, the level begins with you going through this corridor before you're out on the castle ramparts. One of those skeleton things will materialize on a platform, just take it out, and then get onto the platform and work your way up the platforms above it til you can go left (you'll be about four "levels" or so over where you began the stage). There's a door there, go in it and there'll be a ton of ladders connecting places. Just keep climbing and working your to the right and then down and you'll get to the end pretty quick. The guardian here is a pain in the ass, he's a floating wizard thing that createst tons of big purple monsters that hop around and kill you.

It gets tough towards the end of the battle cause of the sheer number of these things that he's throwing out.
The final boss here is easy though, it's this bigass hellhound that can only be on two positions on the screen (far right or far left). It alternately jumps from side to side and spits projectiles at you. It's very easy once you figure out its timing. This boss and his room is also a perfect example of how they put more work into the backgrounds than into the sprites themselves for most of the game.
Just fight him for a minute or so and before you know it...
"YOU PERSISTANT, GOOD GUY. YOU DEAD DOWN HERE."
