I was playing this game FINALLY since I got it and DAMN the characters are HUGE! The animation is nice. Who here has played it and likes it? Why? Just wanted to get some opinions on it as I want to see why it's such a rare game.....with a price tag still.....

Who likes AOF3?

I do, for one!

It really is one of the best looking Neo games around. And despite it's much maligned virtua-fighter style gameplay, I think it is a nice change of pace, and the play makes it somewhat unique among Neo games.

The whole game is actually a really bold experiment by SNK to be, I dunno, cutting edge.

It was 1996 and this was a time when the 3D was really getting big, so SNK kind of tried to make 2D kinda sorta look and play a little like a 3D brawler. The result is pure 2D goodness of course, but with a motion-captured look and some VF style tap-tap maneuvers.

Great story and interesting characters.

As long as you don't expect the characters from AOF2 it's really an outstanding game.

Oh, and it has some of SNK's best fighting game BGs too...

The control is really bad, most of the attacks don't look like they'd really hurt (Robert and Ryo's goofy-looking punch rushes, especially), and ultimate KOs are really dumb. It had a lot of potential, but AOF3 just didn't play well.

However, it's got one of the best soundtracks of any video game ever, especially the arrange soundtrack. Or, you can just do what I did: get the collector's ed CD with Robert's coin & artbook, and pop the game CD into your CD player. That works too.

It is very nice, but he only useful characters are IMO Ryo and Robert!

The other ones are real sloppy!

I love AOF3, because you can pull off a storm of combos and flashy supers. It's really an "art" to master this game IMO.

The backgrounds are tops, and the sprites are most impressive, not to mention the unbelieveably fluid animations.

AOFwise, I still prefer part 1 in some way, I guess because it has a huge nostalgia bonus for me...

Wow!
It's really interesting how opinions vary! "Best Soundtrack", "Best Backgrounds"? We all have different prefferences I guess. For me; I was dissappointed with the lack of "cool" characters. I mean, a fat guy with a pelican in his backpack? Please But, the charachters certainly are original. Lenny (Renny) sure looks like trailer-trash (I mean no offense by that, it's just a joke) but there's never been anyone like her. Kasumi is a solid character. I really expected more out of Karman (Carman) and Jin. Sinclaire is a hottie Wyler is so/so, kind of uninteresting. I do feel that it's the greatest incarnation or Robert and Ryo. They handle great! I find the gameplay fun. The Tripping feature can be a bit cumbersome at times. Man, the Desperation moves HURT! I love the Ultimate KO for some reason. The storyline really is pretty good. Some of the endings are awesome, Ryo's, Jin's, and Kasumi's really stick out. Love the end music too. The AI is'nt bad, and the CPU does'nt fight overly-cheezey like AOF2 (GOD, Cheese D!CK AOF2). Backgrounds are pretty good. I like the over-all atmosphere of the game, that Western, "We're not in Southtown any more" thing going on. I guess some stages really are awesome, like the Cinco de Mayo Parade, and the Railway Station. Music did little for me though. The combo system rocks! A nice balance between chains and home-cooking combos abound. The game get's boring in VS play though, due to the lack of total characters, for me anyway. Well, sorry to talk your heads off. You're touching on one of my favorite series. All in all, AOF3 delivers a 2D fighter that truly is like no other. At the very least, the animation will blow you away.

AOF

Art of Fighting 3 was a blast for me when I played it. The graphics blew me away. Although the game was quite enjoyable, I wish it kept some of the same features from AOF 2, like the ability to finish someone off with a special move (instead, you have to nail them with a DM in order to get an "Ultimate K.O.), as well as the inclusion of King and Yuri (the game could've been better if they were in it). Still though, I'm glad I made it part of my MVS collection.

They're also the only ones with endings (it is a good ending, though). That game just wasn't finished. Could've been great, maybe.

HUH??? But except for Wyler and Sinclair the other ones have endings!!! Just complete the game and you´ll see. But they have no real story told between the fights, right!

Just complete the game with them

Time to change the pace, i dislike this game ALOT. it might be because i could not get use to the controls but it felt like i had to strain to pull off all the kicks and punches, now i am no lamer as i have completed aof2 beating geese on level 8 in which i have video proof and also beaten shodown 2 on level 8 but this game just annoyed the fuck out of me and i am glad i sold it less than a week after getting it, i mean hell you cant even change characters half way through if you lose.

AoF³ is like an 2D-Virtual-Fighter...
First you have to learn the moves, but then it really rocks...

There is not much to learn!

Except for Ryo and Robert the other chars are not very complex neither in specials nor in strings!

Oh, really! I am looking forward to that!

But according to the gameguides, the other chars maybe have half the amount of strings compared to Ryo and Robert!

And you really think you´ll beat me with chars like Jin-Fu-Ha?

Tis interesting! :)

Hey Steven, i think you´ll beat me in AoF³, but in the KoF, or Fatal-Fury-Series, these will change...
You´re right, but in AoF³, you can rock with "Ryo" and "Robert"!
Everyone around me told me, that AoF³ is "the game of games, behind MotW", and i haven´t play it for a long time, maybe i´ll do today!!!

We´ll see, who wins where or who has a lucky day!

I do not want to judge YOUR abilities, but of the fighters in the games!

And I think, I got the knowledge to do that! :D
