Naomi Power Questions

I've searched around on these forums & the ones over at Sega-Naomi and I'm still a bit clueless about obtaining and wiring a 2nd PSU on a Naomi GD-Rom setup. I'm purchasing a Naomi 2 Motherboard, GD-Rom + DIMM & Capcom I/O. I was hoping to use it with my Supergun (D-Lite made with Jameco SC200 psu), but I'm pretty sure the SC200 alone won't be enough to power everything.

I've seen Mr-Megalo's Guide on how to hack an ATX psu, but that's not really something I'd feel comfortable doing or having. I was hoping to buy a real Sega psu like in the Naomi Universal Cabs, but I'm not sure where I could find one.

My other problem is once I have that, how to wire it in. Do I just hook that up to the motherboard directly and leave off the power-related cables from the Capcom I/O? And would have the power-connector that goes to the GD-Rom too?

Also, should I power on the Secondary PSU before my supergun/cab? Or does it not really matter which order.

Thanks,

With a Naomi 2 setup, you really don't need a dedicated power supply. By design, the Naomi 2 GD-Rom setup can be powered by the Capcom I/O, you just have to have a high amp output on the +5V. Sega redesigned the N2 to be more power efficient. The Naomi 1 GD Rom combo NEEDS a dedicated power supply, it draws a lot of power to run.

As far as the connector is connector is concerned, you'll need that because its a Y patch cord, power goes to the mobo, and the other is to the GD-Rom.

Thanks for your reply. The problem is I don't think my PSU can do that.

The Jameco SC200 has 4.0A on the +5V and there's no way for me to adjust anything. Also judging from this post it doesn't seem like trying to power everything from the Capcom I/O is the best idea anyway.

I dunno, maybe I'm just psyching myself out of the whole thing :p

Yeah, I remember coming across that post before I joined, just poking around on the internet.

You could always mod an AT not an ATX powersupply, reason is that power switch on an ATX is controlled on the motherboard not directly. Coinopexpress.com offers a PS that has 3.3V connection, and all the wiring to power the unit. Its up to you.
