What % do you think you do special moves at?

Allow me to explain:

I've been trying to get used to the old style sticks for a few weeks now. For the most part, I'm doing well for a pad boy. Well, sometimes I just can NOT get moves off in the heat of battle, and it's starting to piss me off. For some reason double fireball motion supers really fuck me up. I also will have a hard time, on occasion, pulling off all three of Iori's hits from the left side. Yeah, this makes me mad. With a pad, I could kick my own ass if I was using a stick.

I would say about 75-80% of the time I can pull of a move that I wanted to. That's pretty sucky. What about you guys? I know nobody's perfect, but am I going to have to buy a pad just to get back up to my 90-95% again? Sheesh.

Is that with a joystick or a pad? I just suck with the pad still....

oh, by double fireball motion like iori's dark thrust? yeah, i hold it downwards first.
if i mess up i usually jump. damn, it's annoying sometimes. and the timing, man, sometimes it's terrible to do the qcb+p x3 as you mention it. it takes time i think.

You know, I guess it really depends on the game, too. I was just playing Samurai Shodown, and I was hitting specials every time I tried. I guess some games like KOF are a bit more picky.

I'm always able to pull off the move I want.. I don't think I've ever missed a move recently (or if I have, it's been a LONG time ago). I'm not much of a stick fan, but I can play perfectly at the arcades, just not the home sticks. Whatever works!

I have no problem pulling moves out on an old style stick. The pad and new style stick bring down my %age by a lot. In fact, I fuck up entire plans (jump at the wrong direction, or jump when not wanting to) when using the pad or small stick.

So I use the old style stick. It's the only way to go.

In my case it depends on:

1. board or pad
2. their qualitiy
3. the game
4. my own condition and stress/relaxtion

The optimum would be a modified Saturn pad and a quality game (99,5%).

With pad, 90% at the least. I can pull of moves easily. With a stick, it depends (The Stick on KOF 99 at my arcade is SHIT) but generally I can pull of fireball motions at 80 %, Dragon Punch motions at 60%. I have much more trouble with that move. It also depends which way I am facing.

Stupid stick. It's a joyous occasion if I can actually get a special move off. I guess I'll get used to it; I've already noticed I'm improving. But I'm definitely a pad-man--I just don't have one for my Neo!

It seems the pad is easier to use, think about it, less to rotate for the moves, Joystick you gotta swing that whole pole around and around, with pad, just a twist of your Thumb and its a done deal. heehe

98% with either a pad or a stick. I've been using Sticks and pads equally since 92 and no matter what i'm using I can pull things off with good accuracy. (i'm not braggin, i'm just givin the truth)

Well, it's been a few days since I've posted that, and I can tell that I'm getting better with the stick. I was really going to say the hell with it and get pads, but now I'm getting good enough where I don't need to. I'd say my % is up to around 85-90% now.

You know what it is, don't you? The Neo Geo old style sticks are surrounded by a square, but the "clicks" are 8, not 4. Sometimes when I would try to do fireball motions I wouldn't go up enough for the forward to be recognized. And then I would try to go too fast, and wouldn't get the down/forward to go.

I'm a dragon punch master with the sticks, this much is for sure. What also makes me happy is many moves are a lot easier to do on a stick instead of a pad. Who here played as Takuma and tried to do his forward, back, forward punch with a pad and pulled off a big fireball instead? Not any more for me!

I'm getting really good now. Hell, I think I just need to get used to it more, and I'll be getting much better. Sweet. ^_^

I would say:

Old-Style-Board: 90-99%
New-Style-Board: 80-85%
Pad: 70-75%

on AES or MVS...
So, everybody should take a Old-Style-Board for playing on AES/MVS...

Depends on the game, especially if you're playing KOF. Up until '98, KOF's controls changed every single year. If you're trying to play one of the later games in the KOF series, try holding the joystick in the very last touch position briefly whenever you perform a special (e.g. hold the joystick forwards briefly when you complete a hcf motion).

My brain is kind of "calibrate" for almost every game I have played; man; I can even get an INCREDIBLE acurracy level on SF1 and FF1... it is just thing of practice; and a "decent" command; either new old sticks or pad (you should see the first generation of PC pads; hughhh)

For example, in SS1 and SS2, I'm not good with big hits (with A+B or C+D). I don't manage to do them in a match(I use a CD joypad).

Hey Robert; is almost IMPOSIBLE to use two buttons simultaneously using your thumb; because the shape it has; you better use two fingers separatly.... also is a main to hit simultaneosly to buttons of different sizes... hugh...

Honestly...i can do special moves 65-75% of the time. Depends on the game. I use a modded Saturn arcade pad.

Oh no it is not impossible, thanks to the Sega Saturn joypad converted to NeoGeo!

I'm damn near 95% now with moves. I found that the one joystick I was using wasn't that hot, actually! So I switched to the one I use for 2P, and was on my way to pulling off all sorts of moves whenever I wanted.

Now, I don't even want a pad any more. I'm that pleased.
