so Bill has packed them all up, they are ready to ship - all of them have new battery in place and are working.

I've been reading about horror stories to do with CPS3 hardware and I just wanted to say that please handle these things with care, especially if you don't have any experience with the hardware in the first place. the most valuable part of the setup is indeed the cart and so take that into account - if another hardware part is faulty that may be easily replacable - do not try and fix it yourself unless you know exactly what you are doing and are prepared to take the consequences - the carts are being shipped in anti-static bags and everything was done to ensure that they arive well and safe to you.

now unless I've previously agreed to work something out personally with you regarding the sets should they arive DOA or faulty, then I am not going to give you a refund - unless the fault clearly resides with me that is - otherwise it's the risk one takes collecting arcade material. that's not to say that I won't be receptive and try my best to help should something go wrong - but I just want to cover myself, should you accidentally plug something in the wrong way etc. damage incured through means not related to myself or Bill, is out of my hands.

:annoyed:

:D have fun kids (seriously - everything on my behalf has been taken care of thoroughly, so don't worry about misshaps happening due to incompetence on my part).

believe me - !! - I would love to own a SF3 set - the risk isnt worth the asking price, unfortunately.

And the PS2 port is good.

I really dont like ports!

I've had 4 different cps3 games now, and have yet to have a problem. I believe the issues to lay in 1 of 2 things:

1. Not changing the battery, if youre not sure when it was changed....change it or pay for it to be changed (billd420 changes em for cheap)

2. Human Error - Its a well documented fact that the cps3 stuff dosent like static electricty I.E. dont put em on god damn carpet or somethign like that. While I am not rough with any of my arcade pcb's I dont see how people manage to destroy stuff unless there just being careless

My first new generations fried because it had been a while on the battery. The seller said he changed it before he sent it out, but after inspection it was still the original battery.:oh_no:

My second one fired up, went to the loading screen and got to about 85% and just sat there for hours. I had no choice but to turn the thing off and apparently that killed it.

I've had terrible luck with CPS3 so far.:very_ang:

I would be paranoid if I had a CPS3. The games aren't cheap, and as Justin noted you can stare at the carts and kill them.

I'm paranoid owning it, I'll admit. It has some excellent fighters though, so I can't resist. I can't wait until CPS3 is cracked and they can be brought back from the dead.

Razoola, I beg ye!:D

I sold most of my games because of the suicide shit. 3rd Strike and 2nd Impact
are the only two I'm keeping and/or keep buying. I still have two other kits
that I'm going to put on sale here soon (One of the Jo jo's and SFIII).

Can't blame you there really. Although, the second Jojo's game is worth keeping in my opinion. I'm not a big fan of Warzard, but the rest (all 5 of them) of the CPS3 games are pretty solid.

It really sucks how the original versions of these game will eventually be lost.

SF3 series especially.

I agree.

The price of these carts will continue to rise as more and more fail.

I personally believe that it's only a matter of time before these carts can be brought back from the dead. Given the brain power involved in the cps2 project, I'm sure CPS3 can be done aswell.

Plus, if you have the right connections, a Japanese cart can still be serviced by Capcom.

I hope one day this whole thing can be resolved as well but Im not entirely optimistic about it. How many people are donating "live" carts to the cause? As far as encryption is concerned CPS3 is extremely sensitive and even the most gingerly approach at dumping them has ended up killing them. As much as can be avoided on the human side of things there is always the unknowns.

that's what I understand. that's why japanese carts should in theory be used to crack the encryption - because if they end up dying in the process, there's a chance they can be revived.

I think Channelmaniac has been tinkering with a few dead CPS3 carts. He certainly has the equiptment to find out which pins on that large IC connect to the SRAM that stores that data.

how could one help the project exactly?

I would imagine by donating "live" carts to be dumped. After the roms have been dumped then I suppose in theory the dead carts could be revived. But therein lies the problem, there is some encryption/self destruct device contained in the cart that suicides the cart before a full dump can be made. I think partially it has been done (hence the third strike characters you see in Mugen and that sort of thing) but no one has been able to do a full dump yet. Lol at how many times the word dump was used.

I am no expert by any stretch on this front so this is all information I have been told or collected, probably someone (channelmaniac) could give a more conicse answer. But I would imagine the first step would be to donate some working carts. I have a NG cart I would donate....anyone else?

damn.. well.. that's kind of nuts. if Capcom USA arcade division where still around, maybe they would provide a similar service to the one offered by Capcom japan. has anyone ever tried to contact Capcom USA to see what they think about this situation? highly doubtful they would be willing to help but stranger things have happened.
