Everytime someone asks for recommendations people say the same damn thing; NSMB, Phoenix Wright, and some other lame games I don't like.

Get your ass in here hanafuda.
I'm going to need you when the people tell me how much the DS rocks, but maybe not when I tell them to name some great games from the past half year.

If the PSP and DS were equally priced, I would have gone for the PSP.

DS rocks, best handheld released since GBA :)
what is you really don't like about it?
awesome library of innovative and very fun games on it(which you cannot say about psp).

I would rather play ports/remakes than most of the original games the DS has to offer.
Most of the great games people mention aren't that great or interesting to me. When EBA gets knocked down to $20 I will have to try that out fer shur, but until then, meh.

DS just got boring for me.
The kiddie games got old too.

PSP may not be innovative, but for the collections available for it more than make up for that for me.

Sonic Rush and Zelda are probably the last 2 times i'll attempt to get "in" to the thing

lord, someone please tell me it's good

i know for sure its got the best music out of anything on the PSP/DS/PS3/360/Wii, but someone tell me it plays okay, plzzz :crying:

QFT.

I like the DS personally. The touchscreen is a gimmick, but the games are good. I've got both a DS and a PSP so I really don't have to choose which is nice. Collections plus original games = sechs.

It's not nearly as great as people say it is. NSMB was really, really average, Kirby was boring, AWDS was the same as the GBA games and Wario Ware DS was really lame compared to the GBA versions.

Don't get me wrong - the PSP is kinda lame too, but I dont think one is worse than the other - both have some worthwhile games.

When it comes to who is overrating the DS - well, you have to consider Nintendo fanboys are a really persistant and annoying group.

things i like about my ds are that it doesn't weigh as much as the psp and it has better battery life. after that, i only own a few more ds games than for psp. i was going to sell my psp until i heard about portable ops, metal slug anthology and now castlevania chronicles. i got a ds for castlevania, besides the two out for it, i only have resident evil.
i'd like to see more fighting games on ds, i had street fighter for psp and could barely get the moves out on the directional pad. with the ds being more comfortable to hold, it'd be great for fighters if they could figure what to do with the second screen.

I have to agree, DS is overrated these days.

IMO the PSP actually has had a better game lineup recently, and technically speaking it's hard to look at DS games after playing PSP games.

Both Castlevanias are fucking great, I don't care what anyone says. I also loved Meteos, Rocket Slime, Pheonix Wright, Tetris, and Kirby CC.

Factoring in price of system, prices of games, ratio of shit games to quality ones, and quality of the hardware itself I don't think the DS is overrated.

have you guys played Yoshi's Island DS, Super Princess Peach, - these are really quality platformers.
probably Kirby Squeak Squad too, but I haven't played it yet.
the only game I'm waiting that will come out on psp is Dracula X Resurrection, but that's it pretty much.

Bought my PSP on the first day of release and am still pleased. Great system for home brew and hacks (not possible on DS) I mean I've ran linux and windows 95 on PSP! Play tekken and then look at the DS and you'll cry because of the difference, the PSP is a far superior machine, thats why it lacks battery life it produces far better graphics and sound and has a far better screen. It also looks better imo. include the fact that you can play music/movies (UMD or not) and well its really a portable media device. Like a PDA or something. Far more games to play if you ask me worth playing on PSP. Its like a portable PS2.

I played all those games (I own a flash cart BTW), and wasn't at all impressed.

YI was good but nothing special. SPP and KSS were a waste of time to me personally, and the style of the games really doesn't do anything for me.

The only Ds games that I really enjoyed a lot were Advance Wars DS, Phoenix Wright, Meteos, Mario Kart DS and the Castlevanias. There's a lot of mediocre games on DS that get hyped, and turn out to be nothing special. New Super Mario and Star Fox come to mind. It's just not what some people make it out to be. It's an excellent handheld, the touch screen is a good idea, and there are some very good games. But it's just not the second coming of jesus like some places make it out to be. That's all I'm saying.

For me personally, when it comes down to actual gaming, the PSP just offers more.

Agreed. And yes, Kirby Squeak Squad is an excellent game.

Also, both Castlevania DOS and POR are fantastic. There are plenty of quality games out for the DS.

As for the PSP, I have owned one a couple times now and while it is an impressive hand held, I prefer the DS.

It's all a matter of preference. There really isn't a "best" handheld.

Until a few months ago I was much more into DS. I go back and forth. But at this time, I'm really getting a lot out of the PSP.

Having both is really the way to go.

EDIT: I should also add that I'm pretty excited for the Ninja Gaiden DS game.

i just recently got a ds, funnily enough even though i have quite a few games for it my ngpc still gets more play time, the only games that have really kept me playing have been bleach 2nd and jump ultimate stars, none of the nintendo first party stuff really seems to hold my attention for it.

I may buy a DS at some point (when I can get one for 100 bucks maybe?) but I just bought a NGPC which I've wanted for some time now and couple that with my PSP and I'm pretty well set for portable gaming for awhile

It is overrated only if you buy into the hype. I mean, you would like Pheonix Wright if you like old style adventure games, but if you don't, this isn't going to change your mind. Same thing with NSMB (personally I don't care much for platformers so I don't even bother with it).

One of my favorite is ELite Beat Agent, truly one of the best games but if you don't like music rhythm games, again, it might not do anything for you.

I would say, the DS has a bunch of good games (say 6 to 8 out of 10 range), but truly AAA titles, there really aren't that many (can't even think of one except EBA).

Maybe it's just me, but I thought Star Fox was good.

And, is anyone else out there playing True Swing Golf??? This game is awesome. Using the stylus for your golf swing is great.

Anyway, I don't realy play my psp because of the umd format. It takes forever just to start a game (if it isn't in sleep mode). And you have to switch games every so often. Also, these friggin umd's (not to be confused with wmd's) are too fragile. The plastic breaks and makes all sorts of noise while you're playing a game. The psp is not a very good "portable system". It looks nice, but it's not very practical. I find it much easier to carry around my ds.

But yeah, I've been on a NGPC kick lately too.

I was thinking about getting True Swing Golf (it is under $10 at CC clearance section now).... maybe I will pick it up.

Yeah like most sony products its a bit fragile and the discs can be noisy (I experience all this with PS2 Slim) but if your careful with it you should be fine. I've dropped mine a few times (on carpet only a few feet drop) and it still lives. Most companies have trouble living up to nintendo's standards of quality (MS and Sony!) in durability tests they tend to clean up. especially gameboys etc though I've heard the NGPC does well also

ds is pretty cool, but I think I prefer the library of games on the psp. The problem is, the dpad on the psp is borderline unusable, so I don't even bother with it anymore. Not to mention I have trouble with buttons that don't work every time as well. Meh
