I just picked up another MVS Cab and would like to pick up 2-3 Neo fighters. I have played some of the fighters, as well as read up on them/watched some videos but i would like to own what is considered to be the best fighters for the system.

Some factors I would be looking at would be:

Graphics
Play
Character Selection/Variety
Anything else that makes it stand above the others

Any suggestions would be great.

Garou:MOTW
Last Blade 1 or 2
KOF 98 or 02

runners up:

Real Bout 2
AOF3
SS3
KOF 96

I don't know what you've already played or own so it's hard to tell.

I thought about listing the fighters I have played but it has been so long, I probably couldn't come up with more than a couple. If there are two or three fighters that are considered the best, I would probably look at those to buy.

I have heard good things about Garou MOTW, so that is one I will be looking at for sure.

I have heard mixed things about Matrimelee and haven't been able to find much information about it.

My personal favorites:

KOF2003 (fast, modern-feeling fighter)
Garou: MOTW (great graphics and all-around game)
Last Blade 1 (fantastic atmosphere)

With KOF97 being a close fourth. Of the fighters I have (plenty), those are the ones I play the most.

So graphics wise, is Garou: MOTW considered to be the best looking Neo Geo fighter?

What game (if anyone knows) has the largest/best selection of characters?

It's fun and has decent gameplay but is not something you can play constantly.

I'd say if you want the 3 best go for:

KOF98
SS2
MOTW

As someone who is not a fan of fighters, these are the three I actually liked to play for the Neo.

Garou: MOTW
Ninja Masters
Last Blade

But get Ghostlop first ;)

Edit: better yet, get the roms first, try them out, because as I learned from experience, I absolutely hated all the early fighters AOF, FF, and especially SamSho. So in my opinion if you didn't grow up on them, they aren't guaranteed to be great games.

Aggressors of Dark Kombat - Great characters, cool moves, original gameplay, good music, and its AD fucking K!
Last Blade - Looks beautiful, sounds beautiful, drawn oh so well, plays so smoothly you'll want to divorce and marry it
Fighter's History Dynamite - It's by one of the best companies ever. It's very, very fun.
aaaaaaaand KOF2000 - best all rounder of the series? Not the best graphics, gameplay, roster or music, but it has a high quality of all four of these four categories, unlike any other kof which has one or two of the categories fulfilled, but the other bits lack.

If you get what i mean.

Well, I use to have a modded Xbox and I would try out the Roms prior to making a Neo purchase but I got rid of it well over a year ago. As for Ghostlop, I did own it and thought it was really good. Sold it offer here when I sold off my Twinkle Star Sprites and other valuable MVS games. Now...I am looking for most of them all over again.:oh_no:

MOTW seems to be on most peoples list, so I guess that is one I should look for. I have never played it in any form. I am not a huge 2D fighter fan but really wanted 2-3 excellent fighters for my arcade cabs when other people come over.

Mark of the Wolves lives up to the hype.

I know that's hard to believe, but it's absolutely true.

Ditto

my number 1 is Garou, followed by LB1 & kof 98.

I also really like Samurai Showdown IV.

Mark of The Wolf - Excellent animation, great character design, superb gameplay.
Real Bout Special - Great gameplay, fun animation
Samurai Shodown - Choose any and you'll do just fine. If you have to pick one, SS4 or SS5 Special.

Runner ups: KOF 98, or KOF 2003

Biggest roster on the MVS is pretty much KOF 98.

KOF 2000 is a very fun game

2002 is pretty much '98 but it's kinda ugly. Great gameplay.

And for a SP experience, '97 - '96 - '99

And +1 on MOTW

KOF '98

For goofy fun I enjoy World Heroes, but I know I'm in the minority on that one.

For pure value, I don't think you can go wrong with Samurai Shodown 2. At $15-25, there is no reason not to own it. Some other suggestions would be:

Mark of the Wolves
Rage of the Dragons (most people aren't big fans...not a deep game at all, but multiplayer can be a blast)
KoF '98 and '02 (amazing gameplay)

AoF3
Sam Sho 2
Kizuna
LB2
Breaker's Revenge

Cant go wrong with any of em
