Hi Everyone,

I recall when the Atomiswave was just coming out in the U.S.. As a fact I was one of the few to buy a Atomiswave system with Demolish Fist hear at the Neo Store. At the time I had high hopes for the little red system by SEGA & SAMMY, I was happy at the time to have one. Lucky me that as I got the system and Guilty Gear for it the news was coming out about SEGA & SAMMY dropping the Atomiswave and also after seeing there was nothing new (Games or Systems) in the Atomiswave section hear on Neo-Geo.Com I sold my NEW kit for $250.00. It gets me a bit sad seeing how it is hard to find this system anywhere and that I hade it once but sold it for nothing. What happened with the Atomiswave system? When it was just coming out everyone hear on Neo-Geo.Com and there mothers where saying that it was the future for SNK and that it was the next Neo Geo and so on. But it was NOT and is NOT there is only a # of good games for the system and sorry to say that the games by SNK for the Atomiswave system suck big time. Prof is that there has not been one kit (If there are any) of any SNK titles out there for the Atomiswave system that has been listed on the Atomiswave section hear on Neo-Geo.Com. Why would anyone want one of these systems? The reason I want one again is because I spent over $800.00 for a arcade cab and for the cab to be modified to use the SNK NEO GEO MVS MOBO & the Atomiswave MOBO, and now the Cab is just sitting there (I got the Super Nova Home Arcade system to use my SNK NEO GEO MVS MOBO). Is the Atomiswave worth the money it went and goes for? All I know is that I can give out a WARNING about the Atomiswave system. If you want to spend more money on a system that is a bigger rip off then the Neo Geo AES system go for the Atomiswave system. If you are looking to have a good time, a nice collection and lots to show for your money go with the SNK NEO GEO MVS system. I know that if I would of stayed on that road my collection would be a nice one instead of a half assed one.

Dude where have you been? The Atomiswave died months ago. They're not making any more titles. What you see is what you get. Its pretty disappointing, but there are a few AW only titles that are worth checking out.

This gets my vote as one of the strangest posts I have seen...

Fist of the North Star is worth the price of admission in my opinion. Looking into AW very soon.

I absolutly love my atomiswave and think it was one of the better purchases i've made. I"m very dissopointed that it wasnt a stable platform however I dont think arcades will see a major platform anymore. Most boards only see about 1 to 15 releases then new hardware is out. You really cant except for them to use the same hardware anymore. Atomiswave did very average. However It baffles me that Sega just doesnt force everyone making Naomi games to just put them on atomiswave instead.

I'm very surprised that the majors can't seem to agree on a single arcade standard at this point. Their infighting is putting the deaths blow to an ailing arcade system.

The little guys always seem to flock to quality hardware, be it STV, Atomiswave, or now Taito Type-X/+/2, but the real problem is companies like SEGA and Namco that start a platform then kill it by putting their major franchises on a brand new platform with every iteration.

If you can't even agree to have one architecture within your own company, how can the industry stabilize? SEGA's had Naomi, Chihiro, Triforce, Hikaru, Atomiswave and Lindbergh in the last five years. They've been releasing on all those platforms. It's ridiculous, because at heart, several of these are essentially the same hardware, with the exception of the Chihiro and Triforce, which are suped up home consoles (well, they're all suped up home consoles...)

Namco's pulling the same crap again now with whatever the Cellius arcade hardware is going to be called. There's no compelling difference powerwise between that and Taito Type-X2. There's basically no difference between Lindbergh and Taito Type-X2. In that case it's basically the same hardware...why haven't they sat down and planned this shit out?

Frustration...mounting...desire to kill...rising.

I refused to continue reading the post when I was half through it. Paragraphs, man :shame:

Anyway, yes, the AW was a failure, and that's a shame because it had everything to be the MVS successor. Owning one now is only worth it for the few exclusive AW titles (Dolphin Blue and Rumble Fish 2, as Demolish Fist and KOV are very average), because you are much better with the ports in most cases (specially KOF XI).

Anyone who thought Playmore had the money/tallent to make Atomiswave the new MVS, or even that the arcade market could sustain another such piece of hardware, was a moron.

There will never be another MVS. Atomiswave is just another piece of JAMMA hardware. There are plenty of examples of JAMMA hardware supporting 20 ish titles.

OK, now I read it :eek_2:

First of all, the neostore is not the only place to buy AW stuff. Second, I was not that disappointed in the SNKP games for it, I think they are way better than the SNKP MVS games. And there are some honorable mentions in the rest of the AW games.

The biggest advantage of the AW has been that ports to PS2 are not inferior anymore, but the real deal, and actually superior in most cases. So regular people no longer has to deal with "collectible items" in order to enjoy arcade games.

If you need a nice collection, go collect stamps or something. For playing arcade games at home, buy a PS2.

If you have a standard tv the PS2 ports are fine however if you have a HDtv none of the PS2 ports support progressive scan. Therefore they have a merky blurry haze all over the screen.

I like when it's completely obvious (that's Captain Ovious to you, T. Scott), just from reading a member's profile, that he's really dumb. Saves time and energy later.

AW.

The only thing I did not like about the Atomiswave was the crappy picture quality, you either have hi res which is ok for 3D games or you have lo res interlaced images that flicker similar to the Naomi system. Both of the KOF games had out of focus characters that looked worse than on mvs.

Maybe it is just me but interlaced images make my eyes go weird.:loco:

I found mvs to have a much better image quality than Atomiswave ie no flicker at 15Khz.

Actually, KOF XI supports progressive scan on PS2, you need to press certain buttons on start-up. And it has many factors superior to the AW, mainly the load times, the extra chars and a much easier way to unlock them.

And I agree with hopper, anyway most of the 2D games look better at 15khz, specially Neowave and KOV 7 spirits.

Erm I didnt know KOF XI has progressive scan. I will be picking that title up now. Shame I tired a wii for my KOF XI cart. I can get wiis for days though. I'm one of those werid people who likes playing KOF games on a hgue tv nice and super pixalated with no filters at all so VGA is always my option of choice.

LOL I picked up an atomiswave boxed kit last week with 3 kits. I got Rumble Fish, NGCB and GG Isuka (all new kits). Aside from isuka, the games are pretty tight. I can't wait for my high rez 29" nanao to come in the mail next week, that shit will look sick w/ the atomiswave.

No only if Hakuto No Ken would drop in price... that, KOF XI, and Rumble Fish 2 are really the only titles that interest me. If it weren't for the fact that I traded hardware that cost me next to nothing for the atomiswave package, I would never own one.
