hard? I have a mobo coming that is missing it's SP1 chip and had a z80 error prior. I have a working 2 slot that is actually missing a slot. Can I take chips off of my board and put them on the new board to fix it? Is this easy? Haven't looked at a neo board in a while and mine is packed away.

also, any help on which chips/etc have to be swapped would be great!

thanks!

Z80 error can be caused by any chip in the sound subsystem or by bad/dirty contacts on the cart slot (some games have sound ROMs in them, others use the sound ROMs on the MVS system board.)

So, at this point, what would be my best bet? desoldering the slot from the bad board and putting it on mine, or just swapping everything out and seeing if it fixes it? The board is super clean looking...the one with the z80 error.

I'd try the Z80 chip first... then the 6116 SRAM chip second...

I hope you can do a decent job of desoldering the chips on the board... It's a bitch trying to fix boogered traces on boards where people have poor soldering/desoldering skills. :eek_2:

I don't have that stuff. I have a radio shack soldering iron and a radio shack desoldering tool with that red rubber squeezing thing :) I think I can do it though, lol. Just wasn't sure about which direction to go. Why can't these chips just be socket mounted? lol.
