So I was playin around with this Hispanic Red Earth that made it in with the 3rd strike shipment, and in the test menu there is a feature called "c-dispenser", you can turn it on or off. If you flip it on, "No Card" blinks on the screen when you play the game. I'm not sure what this option was to be used for, but its pretty neat. I'm wondering if the Hispanic red earths possibly had a card reader/writer system that worked in conjunction with the password system so. Maybe a memory card type deal...

Just thought i'd share.

I got my SFA3 in the mail today, and messing with the regions Brazil and Hispanic have this "NO CARD" feature you speak of, seems to be there even during gameplay.

Uh... if it's a proto it would say it in the startup screen, no? The one with the date and region? :smirk:

Thats kind of weird then, cause I don't think any cps2 game had a card reader feature. I"m really curious to find out what the "No Card" thing is all about

oh, and as a side note.

"This is the proto-type arcade Test Cart for US release. The game was never made so the art is proto-type logo and art. "

LOL There's a Red Earth cartridge with an ORIGINAL BLUE LABEL in my basement. Oh yeah and there's a matching Red Earth Silver CD (they do exist, contrary to what that seller says).

But yeah, I wonder what the card reader is all about. Any South American arcade gamers care to comment?

If you're refering to the 3rd strike sets, yes the CD's are originals. They're original USA CD's at that, not japanese ones. I haven't looked through all of the CD's yet. No jewlcases + inserts.

Yeah, I was referring to the 3rd Strike sets.
I got confused with your two threads.

just a heads up on this thing. I've noticed in the GAME DATA section when you fire up the Brazil version of SFA3, there's a section for card uses. My guess is that it's a method of payment.

I'm with you, that has to be what it is. I dont think it's like, a save memory card kind of feature, more like a bill validator sort of thing.

Well every capcom proto ive seen shows its a prototype on boot. This guy is claiming that the carts released were all prototypes.

Back in my coin operator time, i had several capcom original cabs for CPS 2 with card dispensers built in, too bad i didnt have a close picture of any of those, i even had the cards to put in but i never did. I dont remenber but i think the CPS handles the card giving by its own, the only thing you can change was the on and off card option.

Edit: found a picture of the cab on a auction but those are the 29" models and dont have the card dispenser built in.

Edit 2: Found it, look for a yellow thing o the side of the cab.

What exactly is on these cards? Are they like magnetic cards? Do you have any more of them by chance, or any more information on how it operates?

They were normal cards with capcom characters on it, image something like the magic the gathering cads, a picture some status info and thats all, they were given randomly by the CPS. I dont have any cards with me anymore, i sold it with the cabs almost 10 years ago.

Wow thats freakin cool. Where the cards in english or spanish? I'd sure love to get my hands on some Street Fighter cards, or even some Red Earth ones.

By chance, do you remember how the dispenser connected to the CPS board? Was it through the kick harness?

Like the Game Relief Pitcher... It could kick out baseball cards if hooked up to a dispensor.

I don't remember how it was connected to the board. The cars i saw here were mainly SFA cards in portuguese, but i didn't see much of then.
