KOF 99 and KOF 01 use same save root?

Running the games through my phantom 1 I can use the KOF 01 save file to play KOF 99. I thought this was strange when I played KOF 99 for the first time and it asked me if I wanted to load my save file.

Yeah, I don't think that the new companies really know how to access the memory card properly. They're recycling code from older games for the save system. If you have Metal Slug 4 and you save a game you'll notice that it saves as something like "MS3 opt" or something similar to that.

I noticed that the first time i played kof 2k1. i have a save from '99 on my card as well. I was wondering where that 'load data' screen was coming from. Since i had no saves for 2k1 on it.

Ever notice how some save file names a just a garbled mess?
