Wario: Master of Disguise (more like disappointment)

Did anybody else here make the mistake of impulse buying this game? Given that all the previous Wario platformers were quite good, I bought this title on a whim, only to discover that it's hobbled by cumbersome touch screen implementation and just all-around sub-par. This is easily the worst entry in the series of Wario platformers.

got 4/10 in edge

That's actually a bit generous. Personally, I'd not give it a score of greater than 3 if grading it on a 1-10 scale. I'll be dumping my copy on eBay very shortly.

There is NO reason to import this game

in the edge review , they said there is a boss who asks you three questions, you have to answer in japanese, but not only that, you have to get the order of the strokes correct too. no chance (unless you speak or are japanese)

avoid

I had read that this game was below average. The USA reviews I have seen have been poor as well.

I thought that some of the older Wario games were decent, not sure how they managed to fuck this up.

I was wanting to buy this and almost did. Glad I saw some reviews online first.

I thought that I saw some company made this for Nintendo, which may explain the lack of quality. However, if Nintendo is going to farm out franchises, they are still going to be the responsible for them.

Gameoz, this is precisely how Nintendo broke this franchise's winning streak. They farmed it out to a developer I've never even heard of (Suzak).

Bah! They've done this stuff in the past and it hasn't worked most of the time.

Remember those horrible Mario games on the SNES such as Mario's Time Machine?

I wish Nintendo would learn their lesson.

Nintendo outsourced it to some third party dev to make.
Still, I blame N for being too fucking lazy to make it themselves.

Wario Land 2 DX is not only the best handheld platformer, but also one of the best handheld games, period.
Wario Land 4, the series took a dip there and I suppose that's when Nintendo decided he go with this new direction...and I the minigames are cool, yeah, but I'd rather have a traditional Land, so when I heard about MoD a few months ago I was ecstatic.
I still have some hope for this game, no matter how tiny a sliver.

PS I came this close to buying a Virtual Boy just for Wario Land VB.

This actually sounds quite interesting and would not be an issue. Anyone want to sell me a JPN copy of the game?

Did Miyamoto even have anything to do with NSMB?

I'm guessing not a thing.

Nintendo is ruining their franchises by letting poor developers handle them, i.e. Yoshi's Island DS.

They've also farmed out games that worked out rather well for them. F-Zero GX for starters.

My problem isn't so much with the farming out of games. It is the lack of quality control prior to release of the farmed out game. All Nintendo games, whether made by Nintendo or someone else are expected to have a certain level of quality.

I am sure Nintendo is somewhat involved (even if just through updates) with the farmed out game. I am also sure that they play test it prior to release. At some point, I expect someone to say, "this isn't good enough to be a Nintendo release".

Well if you can't understand the Japanese question that is a problem, but if it is the stroke order your are worried about, that would take no more than 5 minutes to look up in a dictionary. Not that big of deal. That being said....

Somebody sell me their minty JPN one!!

I was wondering why I hadn't heard anything about this game.

Guess I know why now. Just as well, I've got too many DS games to play as is.

I was all excited for this game, and I'm surprised Treasure didnt have anything to do with it. I loved the Wario World for the GC, and I wonder what made them chance the formula. Thank you for the heads up on this one, I would've dropped 60 on it and probably been really upset if it was as bad as the reviews are saying it was.

It has only worked some of the time, particularily when they have lent out franchises to people like sega, treasure etc.

Its only not worked when they have given out the franchises to shitty developers.
