Now that its finally out, what are your thoughts?

To me, I liken playing it to running with a parachute on. Because as soon as I play it on my cab it seems so much easier. The timing is totally screwed up due to emulation differences and having to use a pad is a nightmare.

I am confounded as why anyone could play this game with a pad simply due to the fact that there are many times in the game where you need to be jumping shooting and throwing bombs at the same time, but last time I checked I only had one thumb, I mean, wtf??

All gripes aside the games all look great, the loading is bearable and there are tons of extras to unlock. The sounds are off, but I can live with it.

Between this, CCC and the upcoming Drac X collection, the PSP is finally getting a respectable library of games.

I'll respond. I hate loading times period. That's why I have my home system. But what are the extras to unlock?? I have the Wii version and I wonder if they are similar.

I believe the Wii and PSP versions are pretty much identical, save for the control scheme and the longer load times on PSP.

Overall I like it, definitely nice to have a portable version of all the slugs, but the constant loading really sucks. Basically every time you go to a new area (small areas, big areas, doesn't matter) you have to wait about 10 seconds for it to load. The pad isn't a problem for me, but you may want to consider turning autofire on, otherwise your square button will not live to see another game.

Does bring back memories though, like how I remember now why I thought Slug 4 was so terrible. :p

I don't know what to think about this game. There's lag and loading mid-levels in 6 and 1, the load times between levels and games can get a bit long.

And then there's the issue of the D-pad. It's terrible for this game. In sections where you have to jump + hit down and shoot, I get my ass kicked because of the lack of dpad responsiveness. In parts where you have to run and shoot up at the same time, I have trouble too, because you have to press up so hard to get it to work.

I rented this, so I dont know if I'll send it back or keep it. The unlockables might make it worth keeping, and playing slugs on the go is tempting (even though I don't usually play my PSP on the go)

How are the unlockables? Do you have to beat the game to earn "tokens"? Can you use the wallpaper on your PSP?

You have to beat the game to earn tokens. Usually 4 tokens per game completion.
Wallpapers, Music, and Desktops can be downloaded to your mem card. And then uploaded to your PC or set as your PSP wallpaper.

I'm really enjoying this game. The sheer volume has me bringing it with me instead of the ol' trusty DS. Between this, the Sega Genesis collection and Salamander Portable the PSP has really become a beautiful machine.

Metal Slug Complete is great for kids because of the free play mode. My girl's nephew thinks he rocks at it, and he's used over a hundred credits! I forgot to turn off the blood (oops! Not like it's realistic.)

It's fun to play but loading between mid-level is a terrible thing....
Also I hate the "token" things...........

I'm afraid my d-pad and square button will not last long........:spock:

I'm gonna pick this up now. The JPN version comes with a nice handstrap/cleaner too. I have the Namco D-pad adpater as well as the d-pad mod, so I should be good. No other games give me any trouble anyway.

I got it and the load times do suck. However I made it into an ISO and put it on my memory stick and the game is much more enjoyable now.

This compilation rocks HARD.

I especially enjoy playing MS2. The game plays much better than its AES/MVS counter part w/less slowdown!

had this for a while now, dunno why i never posted about it.

anyways: the loading time between games is truly shit which isn't uncommon for psp games.
and like said somewhere earlier, the d-pad sure isn't the best to play slugs.

despite all this: it's every metal slug on the go.

that's a fucking good thing.

That's what tipped the scales to get me to keep my rental.

Whats this I read about the PSP game using a bootleg rom for Metal Slug 5? Saw it here. If that's correct I'm suprised its not in GD or news and rumors. Or I just didn't see the thread.
