Anybody pick this up? Gameoz? I read the IGN review. They said its pretty much an unforgiving dungeon crawler. Looks fun though.

Yes, I picked this up. I haven't spent much time with it though, since I have been playing a ton of Trioncube DS. (Fantastic Game)

Right now, I can't say that I would recommend Unemployed Ninja, as it is hard as hell IMO. I understand how dungeon crawler (and level) games work but I am still undecided on this one. $30 is a lot to pay for such a frustrating game. However, if you know what you are getting into and like that style of game, this game will fill that void.

Yeah, they said the difficulty was a bitch. I'll probably pass for now. If I see it someday for $20 I might give it a go.

If this wasn't a dungeon crawler, I'd buy it.

The title alone is worth the price, but dungeon crawlers? Maaaaan.

I want to get this game.

From what I've heard about it, it sounds a lot like Angband, a really old dungeon-crawling computer game. That game had no graphics at all: everything in the game was represented by different symbols and letters of the alphabet. You had to be extremely careful, 'cause if you died, your game was over. If you ever wanted to play a game that would make you deathly afraid of a capital letter D, that was it! :D

If you like getting kicked in the nuts over and over again, pick up this game. It is impossible to get through the first dungeon without being killed again and again. The only good thing is that you keep your level but on the downside, you lose everything that you picked up. Also the dungeon is random each time, so you really can't learn from your past mistakes.

I keep playing this, although I don't know why. It doesn't look that great and could easily be pulled off on the GBA. Each time you re enter the dungeon, you will get a little further than you did the last time and maybe that is the draw. However, that doesn't make you a good player, it just makes you someone that is willing to get kicked in the nuts over and over again.:spock:

EDIT:Just wanted to add. Although I had a lot to say negative about this game (and there is plenty) it is a game that makes you want to keep playing. These type of grinding/level building games are addicting. I was at level 9 when I finally finished the first boss and beat the dungeon. As stated, it is random each time (map and items) so there is a lot of luck as to what will happen each time you enter. When I beat the boss, every time I took the stairs to go to the next level, the next stairs was in that room. I also found some really good items in the first area. So, there is a lot of luck and patience involved. I would probably give it a 6.5/10.

I hate to do this but I now love this fucking game. It is so addicting to level up your character and bowl over all of the enemies that were kicking your ass just minutes earlier.

You can save up to 120 weapons/items (once you open up the store room, you have to beat the first dungeon to do this) and you can also sell off what you don't want. The game can be harsh at times but since you always keep your level experience, you always return stronger than before. You just have to be careful about putting away good weapons/items until you are strong enough to make it through the dungeon and beat the boss.

I have been playing a ton of this game now and I am at around level 30. Very fun if you like to level up and collect things. I would change my score to an 8/10.

Hmm...I'll probably check this out from gamestop tomorrow because it does sound addicting. You think 3 days for an hour or two a day is enough to learn to love it?

As long as you go into the game knowing that you are going to get your ass handed to you, you will be fine. Every time you die, you keep the level (exp) you earned, so you are always stronger the next time. Before long, you are kicking ass through the first dungeon wondering why you were frustrated. Then...you move to the second dungeon and it all starts again.:tickled:

Like I said, if you like level building and collecting games, you will love this. I would say that within a couple of hours (or level 8-10) you will be enjoying this game. The levels/item drops are random each time you enter, so that adds to the fun.

I finally picked this game up and I've been playing it this weekend.

So far, I'm having a lot of fun with it. This is one of those genres of games you have to get a taste for though. It's just as much about treasure hunting as it is about survival. I like the fact that you are severely punished for dying, much like Way of the Samurai or the Fire Emblem series. It puts a fear of death into you and makes the battles more exciting.

It doesn't seem as hard as people have been making it out to be though. As long as you stay cautious and don't pick impossible fights, you should be okay. There are times when I've had to beat a hasty retreat, but at level 15, I've only died once (fighting some freakishly strong egg-creature).

It's a fun game with lots of humor. Thumbs up from me.

Does it have a decent story?

It is not really set up that way. There really isn't much of a story to it as it is a dungeon crawl. Very good game, once you get into it.

If you like to collect/level build, you will probably like this game. If you are looking for a story, this wouldn't be the game for you.

Would it be playable in Japanese? I've seen it real cheap.

I'd say probably not, since you'd have a hard time identifying the various items lying around the dungeons, and what effects they have.

Plus, you'll miss all the goofy one-liners in the game.

Agreed. I import a lot and I would stay away from this one. It is not that there is much of a story but there is a ton of collecting (weapons ect.) that happens. I think it would take a lot of the fun out of the game.

You're right, when you walk across an item in the dungeon, it brings up the name. When you consider how many items there are (and some very similar) I think this would be a tough game to get the hang of.

Started playing it yesterday, and I am impressed by its humor and little touches like the sound effects that accompany the dialogue bubbles. The random item/dungeons is also fun. You don't get too attached to your items, but there's always plenty to find and always different. Kinda reminds me of Evolution on the DC. It's also a good game to play in short sessions because you get many opportunites to save.

I don't think I'd buy this for $30. $20 maybe.

Heh. sounds like Evolution:Eternal Dungeons to me. Evolution game through and through with basically the same concept. Although the battles are turn based so thats what makes Evolution more of an RPG with dungeon crawler elements rather then vice versa.
