Why hasn't Street Fighter IV been released?

I think I know why Street Fighter IV is taking it's sweet time in the development stage.

I saw that Capcom recently teamed up with Taito to use their new Type X arcade hardware. This is great and all, but it got me thinking. The new Taito Type X system is heavily based off a PC, and even runs XP Embedded if I'm correct. From what I understand, this has enough potential to be hacked (easier than others, say.. CPS2 so to speak.) So why wouldn't Capcom use Taito Type X for Street Fighter IV? If it's as popular as any of their previous Street Fighter titles, they don't want it stolen or bootlegged and as such, are developing their own, new arcade hardware specifically for Street Fighter IV.

What do you guys think? Just a thought. I also think it would be interesting to see SF4 go up against the new KOF coming out, you know, the "ultimate 2d fighter" :smirk: :D

The last 2D Street Fighter is one of the best (if not the best) 2D fighter ever created. They probably don't want to ruin that.

Yeah it would take A LOT to top 3rd strike.

No offense, because I'm as hope full as any one else, but I think some people are living in a fantasy world. Arcades are dead, 2d is dead, SF 4 is not in development, Capcom has no interest in making arcade software let alone hardware and I think the final nail in the coffin is that Capcom of Japan doesn't even own the SF copywrite anymore iirc.

The CPS, like the AES, days are long gone.

I'm pretty sure it is in development, or was in development anyhow. I know about the whole Capcom USA owning the right to SF thing... but didn't they own it prior to Hyper Street Fighter II being released on CPS2? That would mean they are still making arcades, rehash or not. :conf:

For one it's not in development.
Secondly, because no one who works at Capcom now knows how to make fighters. Everyone who worked on the Alpha and III series have scattered to the four winds.

SF4 is D-E-A-D if it was ever alive to begin with.

Arcades are dead in the US, yes. Not over in japan however. The AOU show is actually going on this weekend showing all of the flagship titles for the coming year. Capcom actually has a new 3d fighter comming out that looks similar to Rival School... its on the Type X 2 IIRC.

As for Capcom not owning the copyright to street fighter... thats the most absurd thing I've heard. Thats like Microsoft letting the copyright for Windows go. Its one of Capcom's most popular and longest running franchises. The only way I see Capcom dumping the ownership to SF is if they go belly up.

Capcom has always been remarkable in their ability to leave the good in and build on it, and I think they could top third strike if they really put their hearts into it.

But that would require a fair amount of resources, and it just doesn't seem profitable given the 2D fighting game market.

In short, it won't happen, IMO, although I'd still love to see it.

(maybe the fact that my native language isnt english clarifies that some people seem to not understand what i wrote !)

Thomas-

I replied to both of your emails the same day that you sent them. I'm thinking that there was a delivery error since you're claiming not to have received a reply from me.

I'm PMing your right now at Neo-Geo.com concerning this.

I should look it up, but I assumed some one here would know the details. My point is just that Capcom of Japan gave up the writes to Capcom of US, so if we get a SF4 it will not be made by anyone associated with the original SF games. Whoever was responsible for making all the Turbos, 3rd Strikes, Alphas, etc... does not make 2d fighters anymore. Baring any last ports, I think it is all over for 2d SF games. If we get anything it will be made by Capcom USA or an affiliate.

From what I understand, there isn't anyone, be it Capcom USA or Capcom Japan, from the Street Fighter team anymore. The original Street Fighter creators went off and formed their own gaming company (the name escapes me atm), others jumped ship to SNK, and if there's anyone left it's very few. Correct me if I'm wrong?

you have defeated your own question with this post

you honestly thought several chimpanzees with the intellectual property rights of street fighter would have the initiative to make a new game?

just look at CFJ, those hopeles hosers can't even fucking compile a few old sprites.

I read a report that covered the arcade divisions closure at Capcom. It was stated that CPS3 was unreliable and CPS4 was in development when the decision was decided to can the whole dept.

Street fighter on Type X, thats absolutely laughable. Any new SF game will be outsourced since Capcom has no 2D artists under its belt.

sf4

I was on Xbox Live about 2 months ago, playing against David Sirlin who is a producer at Capcom USA.... He did work on the Capcom Collections game for ps2... Anyways, I brought up SF4 and he told me that SF4 was indeed in development at one point, and was actually pretty far along. He also said that Capcom Japan did not like what Capcom USA was doing with the game, and scrapped it around the same time that they scrapped the whole Arcade division.

No one actually wants Street Fighter IV anyway. They want Street Fighter Alpha 3 with a new coat of paint on it.
